Date added bug?
Here's the behavior I'm seeing on my gen 3 30 gig with iTunes on a Mac.
I have a smart playlist that collects all the songs that I've added to my library in the last four weeks. The list currently has 195 songs in it. I update my iPod, go to that playlist and choose a song. Looking at the "now playing" screen I see that I'm on song 1 of 698. Hmmm. That's not right. So, I go back to iTunes (after messing around with the playlist, even deleting it and making a new version of it with no luck) and limit the playlist to 200 songs. Now I have an exact copy of the playlist on the iPod up to the last five songs but those last five are just randomly chosen from my library. All of my many other playlists, both smart and otherwise, are working fine.
Anyone else see behavior like this??

I have the same problem with one of my Smart Playlists, "100 Newest Songs". The iPod would get the first 10 or so songs right, but the rest are just random songs from my library. I also sort the playlist by the "Date Added" column.

Interesting. Anyone else? Sounds as if we may be into the reproducible bug area.

Yes, I can create the same date added bug you are referring.
My work around is to create a smart play list like you example...say "Newest 100 Songs" and then create a new play list and drag the smart playlist to the playlist.

I haven't tested, but I'm guessing the the "date added" on the iPod is the datye you moved the files to the iPod, while "date added" in iTunes would be the date you added the file to iTunes.

I'm finding the same thing. I use Date Added for my 2G 10GB iPod and it works fine (software update 1.3). But my new 40GB 3G iPod is doing the same - heck - it takes my nifty 720 song list and bloats it to 6 or 8 thousand.
The "last added to iPod" idea is an intriguing one - though it doesnt happen to my older iPod. Weird.
