Compressing aifs for ipod.

I finally got my ipod to work but now I have one last problem. After adding 1/2 of my cd collection to my ipod, the 30 gigs is already full. There is only about 500 songs, but they are all straight from the cds, so the file sizes are very large. Also, I imported all the cds as aifs instead of mp3s... How can I compress these files? Or do I need to import all the cds once again?

I'm pretty sure you can't convert a file on iPod, so you will probably have to re-import.

For future reference: AIFFs, like WAVs, weigh in at approximately 10MB per minute of audio.
