roundabout imports

I'm currently copying my vinyl LP collection on to my hard drive. I'm using a Griffin Technologies PowerWave between the turntable and the computer and Final Vinyl as the import copying software. Problem: the tracks are succesfully copied as AIFF files. But I can't import them directly in to iTunes (ver. 3). First, I have to copy them in (as AIFF files), then burn a CD of them, then delete the AIFF files from iTunes and finally import from the CD in order to get the tunes in my library as mp3. This can't be right! Importing from CDs works flawlessly. What's the difference whether the AIFF file is on the CD or on my desktop? I have a 700 mHz eMac G4 and am using OS 10.2.3

I know there are upgrades available but my dial-up connection makes file downloads unbearably long!

Somebody he'p me!

Do this:

1. Go to File:Add to Library, and add the AIFFs to your Library.
2. Find the AIFFs in your iTunes Library in the main browser window. This is simple enough to do if you sort by "Date Added".
3. Batch-select them.
4. Go to Advanced:Convert to MP3/AAC.

Thanks. I'll give that a try. Sounds almost too simple and yet a little more complicated than need be. Thanks, again.
