iTMS outside USA?

We all understand the reasons why the iTunes Music Store is not available in Europe yet, but it's frustrating nevertheless. Does anyone have any news/gossip on when this might change?

Depending on who you ask either in late 2003, early 2004...

Officially I've heard the latter, the former statement was in an article I read in the paper here 2 weeks ago.
