Rip to iPod question

When I use this script, the files do not show up in Playlists. They do not show up listed in iTunes. They're on the ipod, but it's hell finding them. I have to do a Browse and locate them usually by song. What am I doing wrong?

Can you be more specific? If you can Browse and find them, doesn't that mean they show up in iTunes?

You are doing nothing wrong (unless there's something you'd like to confess). The script removes the files from iTunes playlists. So, they will be on the iPod, but not in iTunes playlists. As eustacescrubb correctly points out, the tracks can be displayed in iTunes, in your iPod Source, but the files are not on you hard drive nor in any iTunes playlist.

The script was written to accomodate people who prefer to keep iPod files separate. As I wrote at the site when I first posted Rip To iPod v1.0 (http://www.malcolmadams.com/itunes/scripts/scripts08.shtml#riptoipod):
...despite my very large CD collection, I don't maintain a very large iTunes library (only about 3000 songs). So when I want to take something to-go on iPod, it usually hasn't been ripped yet. Why bother keeping it on my hard drive?

As far as navigating iPod to quickly locate tracks, this is another matter.

I guess I wasn't clear.

What I mean is that the playlist doesn't show up in the iPod's list in iTunes, not in the iTunes library on my Mac.

And the playlist doesn't show up on the iPod. I can only find the ripped files via Browse and then via Songs, unless I PHYSICALLY do an info on them and fill in the fields. Getting the info via the database doesn't work when I use rip to ipod script (I mean when I want to find the files then on the ipod).

Ah. I think I see. The tag info isn't getting passed to the ripped files?

No, it isn't. And it doesn't show up in the playlists when I connect the ipod either.

That is odd. I cannot duplicate the error. Files are copied to iPod, tracks' tags have correct data

Any theories, e?

slim,

Perhaps some extra info about your system and setup? What OS? What version iTunes? What version iPod software? What generation iPod?

OK, sorry.

I've got a PBG4 677 DVI running OS X 10.2.6, iTunes 4, iPod 2.0, 3rd gen 10GB iPod (with the row of 4 buttons, latest generation).

When I use Rip to iPod I cannot see any of the tracks listed in iTunes (I mean when the iPod is docked and I am looking at the tracks on it with iTunes). I don't get any playlists on the iPod though I can track down the ripped tracks using Browse > Song. But this is hard and I wish I had playlists. This happens with or without full database data on the tracks I rip.

Rip To iPod does not create playlists. It merely adds the tracks to iPod. If you want the tracks assigned to playlists, you must do this yourself, as you say you *are* doing. A quick way is to use the File > New Playlist From Selection menu command.

A sure fire way of locating recently added tracks is to sort by Date Added. This is how my iTunes is sorted about three-quarters of the time.

Pardon me if you are already aware of all of this :)
