lajo- car clip for exo in the works?
i would love to see a car clip for the exo. possibly just a little thingy to stick somewhere that the screw on the back could slide into- like a belt clip for the car. any hopes of that happening?

cup holder would be great!
# 5 Re: lajo- car clip for exo in the works?
i would like to put it on the dashboard near my tape deck. cupholders are sketchy because i need somewhere to put my cups. this could mount out of the way of everything and since i am so used to the radio controls anyway, it would be very easy to work the ipod in the same vicinity.

Personally, I'd like to see something akin to the DLO Transpod for the 3Gs. I like the idea of combining the cigarette lighter adapter, mount and FM transmitter all in one package. Otherwise, evne if it was just a mount, being able to put it in the cigarette lighter hole would be awesome. I don't want to have to stick or screw anything to my dash, and the cupholders are too low.

Check out this thread... I think you'll be pleased.

Yeah, I saw the ad in my latest issue of Macworld...I got excited, then I realized that both models on the website are for 2Gs. :(

Yeah... obviously not available yet... but cool nonetheless.
What would owning an ipod be like without waiting for frickin ever for the next cool accessory?!

Does the DLO transpod extend the iPod up on a bendable stalk? I'd like the iPod up on a stalk at about shoulder level so it's easy to control while driving. The stalk should bendable like a gooseneck so it can be pushed out of the way and easily positioned for the driver or passenger's seat.
Plugging into the lighter outlet is what I'd like to see--I prefer keeping my cupholders too. The base near the outlet should have a line out--personally I don't like the FM transmitter thing although as long as I have a line out the FM is fine.

Lets work on a design together, come up with some good ideas, I will build it here in China and the idea that flies will get a royality, I have this feature built into my site to control royality and other form of payouts.

A clip attachment to allow the Exo to easily be attached to a car airvent would work for me. Most airvents are similar in design and a relatively simple mechanism shoudl give compatability with most cars.
This doesn't solve how to get the music from the ipod to the stereo itself though. A line out connection would have to come from the bottom of the ipod, is there a hole in the Iskin? I can't remember and haven't got mine with me. Will the Itrip if and when it is every released fit over and exo?

# 13 Re: lajo- car clip for exo in the works?
Another idea...how about just combining the cigarette lighter charging unit and the stand, and then letting people choose whether they want to use a line-out or add an iTrip to the top of it. The Belkin car thing has the cig lighter charger and a line out, but it doesn't give you anywhere to PUT the iPod...so improving on that idea could be good. Then that would satisfy those who want to use a line out, and those of us who can't and must use the FM Transmitter.
# 14 Re: lajo- car clip for exo in the works?
how about a car stereo unit with an ipod dock built into the front of it? a little shelf could slide in and out of the face and the pod could dock on it, charge, and get a digital signal to the stereo. as long as it fits the iskin.....
# 15 Re: lajo- car clip for exo in the works?
If I wanted to replace the stereo, though, then I would be able to get a line in. I'm looking at those people who don't want to have to replace the entire car stereo... ;)
# 16 Re: lajo- car clip for exo in the works?
i like the idea of a stalk that plugs into the lighter outlet. Sort of like those flashlight type deals where you can bend it any way you want, and yet it supports the ipod well. it should be like 2 feet long. yes, yes... fm transmitter too.... also... it should charge the ipod, not just power it. wow it'd be a super product
# 17 Re: lajo- car clip for exo in the works?
Two feet? Geez, how far away is your lighter outlet? LOL I wouldn't need any more than about 8" at the most...I wouldn't think most cars would require any more than that. A two foot long stalk might look a bit tacky, IMHO.

The "interior 2" picture shows the center dash assembly...the cigarette lighter is to the left of the shifter. The thing on the right of the shifter is a household outlet plug. So technically I could power my iPod that way, but would prefer the cigarette lighter plug since the household outlet can be sort of sensitive to things that draw certain amounts of power.

There are quite a few cell phone holders on the market now that hook inot th event so using a similar existing design should make it simple. I wold also recommend two other veriations. One, the windshield suction cup mount. The other wouldl be a mount for the flower vase on the New Beetle. I don't own one (wife does) and it wold be far better that the cupholder one that baelkin has introduced with the ipod deal with VW.

what happens when the suction cup loses its...suction
bam ipod-dashboard contact... not too good
2 feet would bring it up to shoulder height, i may have been overdoing it, but you know what i mean... i nice long stalk that you can bend any which way

I can see the ideas are flowing

With a flexible stalk design, you could have a short (~8 inches) and long (~18-20 inches) version. The end that plugged into the lighter would be high quality molded plastic or formed metal with a line-out jack. A white (or satin anodized silver) metal flexible gooseneck would extend out from the plug and terminate in a white plastic cradle for the iPod. The cradle should be minimal--just enough to securely hold the iPod.
The iStalk :-) would supply power and route the line out from the bottom jack to the base of the plug. For people that want wireless FM, the cradle would not interfere with using a top-mounted iTrip (no need to reinvent the wheel).
