Stay clear of Mac Clear Zip cases by Lajo

Mine arrived this morning, badly made so the iPod doesn't fit into it! Nice design feature, also has rough inner edge where its bonded together, so you never have to worry about your pod being scratched because the case will do that from the word go..

Its shocking that such shoddy workmanship should be out in the real world. Its quite disgraceful. i am returning it to iskinworld in the uk today & ask for a full refund. I will report back on iskinworld's ( Norwich) customer service at the earliest opportunity.

BE WARNED

Sorry to read that my zip case was less than you expected. My new zip case will be released in about 3 wks with a softer TPU and new zipper. Hope to get you on the rebound.

I have both of my iPods in them and I have over 20,000 cases to choose from, for some reason the simplicity of TPU really appeals to me. TPU material is incredible and zip will be the delight to all that own a cell phone, PDA or lap top because I am making zip TPU cases for all of these.

When you iPod gets a little beaten up you might want to zip you case again, the ultra clear TPU gives your iPod a just bought look.

Not trying to convince you, your decision has already been made just like mine has been made to make zip number one in the market place.

Looks like you got a bad case. I also had to exchange mine and the replacement case was perfect. There's certainly some quality control issues with this case. For a slim line case that easily slips in your pocket, there's nothing better in my opinion. I look forward to checking out the new case too.

Here's photos of mine. I think it looks really sexy!

Yes the production of zip has been painful but in the end I will get what I want and the pain will only be a distant memory. This new material is going to make you love zip even more. I am going to take over production of the case, the factories here are not geared to produce such quality, they can not afford to produce case by case they need the volume and I am not interested in quantity otherwise I would use PVC.

Here's a different view. I really enjoy my clear case. I can use it for my IPod, or headphones, whatever. I thought it was a nice bonus that came with the Exo.

BYW, Lajo - you really kicked some a$$ with the new Exo! Thanks!

Don't forget that there are 2 different maclear cases - one you can get just for the iPod, and the other which comes free with the exo. The first is a snug fitting case with holes for the headphones and hold button. The latter is a larger case that fits the iPod while in the exo.

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience. But I really love my Zip case. I have an iSkin eXo as well as a Speck Skin, but I use the Zip case primarily. The edges did seem sharp at first but when I tried it on, it didn't leave any scratches on my iPod.

If its CR*P & you know its CR*P, then why send this CR*P out. This is about quality control, or the lack of it in your case. Why should anybody pay money for CR*P. Cynical self promotion throughout.

Dude...chill out. The case is like 10 bucks. Agreed, some are coming off the assembly line with defects. But the ones that aren't are pretty darn good. Seems like the resellers are doing their best to exchange them. Hopefully lajo will work on this. No need to get hostile. Sounds like there are plenty of satisfied customers though.

come on man, you cant blame Lajo for the defects, he's not the actual machines that makes it. you should look at other thread and see how much he contributed to this community, and appreciate that he is actually here helping us out. things happen, a bad case can be annoying but dont be a d*ck. just calm down and things will get worked out just fine.

Let me know how the refund works out, you can contact me at lajo@lajo.biz. Don't let a thing like a case ruin your day. There are lots of iPod cases out there that will meet your needs. I hope this will not touch a raw nerve but I want you to test my new case, if it can satisfy you then I am that much closer to where I want to be it would be a great help if you decide to do so.

I like the Maclear, too (especially since it's just about the only one to show off my personalized engraving on the back), but I have to complain about the hole for the Hold slide: it's too small for my finger! Cutting it large enough has made it quite ghastly around the edges, and being the perfectionist/obsessive-compulsive that I am, I keep trimming at it until I'm certain I won't even need to unzip the case to remove the iPod altogether.

# 16 Re: Stay clear of Mac Clear Zip cases by Lajo
I think the thing to understand about Lajo's cases are that his is still a rather small operation. The kind of tolerances necessary to have his skins fit a iPod perfectly (too big would look like crap, too small doesn't fit) are extremely high. Attaining such high tolerances is not cheap and would likely result in a skin that you couldn't justify purchasing. I would be willing to put up with a 20% failure rate if it meant getting one of his skins for the price they're currently being offered at.

# 17 Re: Stay clear of Mac Clear Zip cases by Lajo
I am an perfectionist/obsessive-compulsive person too and you would have some idea how it hurts inside everytime a case is not made the way I see it in my mind but that is the driving force of a designer, to get to that point and say you did it.

# 18 Re: Stay clear of Mac Clear Zip cases by Lajo
I like the Maclear ... I used it for a little while as a case for the eXo, but subsequent use has proven that it's unnecessary unless I'm expecting something bad to happen to my iPod (like rain or elephant stampede). I use it more frequently for holding the case and the charging cord ... very handy, and tidy!

We oversee a significant amount of production (also in China) and you're right, it is very rewarding to realize your vision. Congratulations on your success.

I would still, however humbly, offer the suggestion that the opening be enlarged. Perhaps even the two of them could be reversed, allowing fingernail-less fingers to get at the Hold slide easier through the more generous oval. Placement of the one for headphones is critical, too; if the plug has to push aside any excess plastic or a lumpy edge to be inserted, it's more likely that it will loosen from the jack during use, and drop its connection (which happened to me today while the iPod was tucked away in a bag on my back).

I look forward to the model with your new material!

# 21 Re: Stay clear of Mac Clear Zip cases by Lajo
The new material will let you move the hold without an opening because this TPU stretches. if that works the way I think it will there will be no need for a hole resulting in more protection against dust. I will test it with a few people first to see how they feel.

# 26 Re: Stay clear of Mac Clear Zip cases by Lajo
The new zip case is going to better, softer and thiner (0.40 vers 0.30) with a better zipper. It will be a big improvement and now that I have control of the purchase of material used I can see a better product coming out also I will start to produce some of the casees in my own factory to test new materials and method of production.

Lajo,
While you are making changes to the zip case, would it be possible for you to produce a version that has a cutout for the dock connector? This would be great for me as I primarily use my ipod in the car via the Belkin auto kit.

# 31 Re: Stay clear of Mac Clear Zip cases by Lajo
Because the zipper is there it may not be possible. I tried it with the previous case, maybe this new material will offer new solutions.

Which MaClear case are you talking about? There's one which is just for the iPod, and then a larger one which fits the iPod while in the exo case. When the original zip case was introduced there was a promotion which include the belt clip. Now this is a separate item. The zip case which comes with the exo does not have a belt clip and there is no option to get one either.

Hope this helps,

Bob

# 34 Re: Stay clear of Mac Clear Zip cases by Lajo
The clear case that comes free with the EXO's is designed to fit the ipod with the exo case on it or to hold your accessories. Currently no way to add on the belt clip.

There are seperate clear zip cases to fit the ipod only with a snug fit. This is available with the belt clip, for the 2g 10gb, 3g 10/15gb and 3g 30gb models.

Let me know if you would like pictures of the one for the ipod only with the belt clip and I will post some up on our site.

Maybe if the zipper were placed further back, closer to (if not directly on) the edge itself? I realize there's very little room for that, given the iPod's thickness. My Krussel leather zip-case for my SonyEricsson cellphone incorporates such a design, and allows side openings in front of the zipper.

Please consider me for your product testing, too. I'm ever so finicky.

As soon as we have a good zipper factory that we can work with I will look at the zipper adjustment and see if it can work. Right now they have a difficult time to make TPU zippers

The belt clip is for the zip case which fits the iPod but would not fit the iPod in a eXo skin.

OK i'm not as well versed ont he Maclear information. I am getting the impressiont hat the maclear ships iwth an iskin exo? if so what is the total cost? and what is the point? Why would you want to put an exo AND a maclear. Don't they do the same thing?

# 40 Re: Stay clear of Mac Clear Zip cases by Lajo
I love the Maclear case. I use it everyday and never take my ipod out since I put it in the case. Actually the reason why I never take it out is, I don't want to "put it in" again. It's so hard to fit the ipod in the case, I spend almost half an hour to do this. Even now I'm not too happy with the fitting. The hold button is very hard to access, and it's so hard to plug my cable into the firewire hole (I'm using the 2G 10gb), same case for the headphone/ remote.
I think if the zipper is longer on both side which can almost reach the case top, I can easily fit the ipod in and place it properly "in" the corner. Not like what I have now, really get loose in the corner.
Don't get me wrong, I still love this case very much. I can show off my beautiful ipod and access it easily.
And Lajo, I like to see a new 2G iskin with the screen protector and also a touchwheel protector, which means a 100% protection like the Maclear. Thank you for your great design. ;)
