iPod Armor -- does one size fit all?
Is there only one model of the iPod Armor case, or are there separate sizes for the 2G and 3G 'Pod models? I have a 3G, 30 gb model and want to make sure I get the right thing.
I can't tell from the web -- looks like one size fits all (judging from most reviews and web links), but then the manufacturer's website has separate options for ordering one for the 2G and 3G models. Directcase.com, where I'm planning to buy it because they sell it for cheap, mentions something unhelpful like "fits all current iPod models, including 5, 10 and 20 gigs" (nice to see that they've updated their site recently!). Can I go ahead and order from Directcase, or should I order the specific 3G model from the manufacturer?

Yes. According to Matias' website, reviews, et. al. Don't worry.

Hello,
We have sold a lot of these to both original and 3g owners and we have never had any one complain about the fit of the case.
I personaly do not use one but they are a strong case if that fits your need.
Thanks,
Brian

I just got the one I ordered, and it's a REALLY tight fit for my 3G 30 gig 'Pod -- so tight that there's no way to get the iPod out of the Armor other than putting a flat screwdriver blade behind the iPod and levering it out. The problem is the height-wise fit (i.e. the squeeze is on the sides with the docking port and the headphone jack). It fits fine in terms of depth and width but it's a bit too snug top to bottom. Also, it didn't snap shut easily. Maybe it would have but I didn't force it... I got the sense that the problem was, again, the height, making it not quite fit and close right.
I'm all for a tight fit, but this is borderline unusable -- I don't want to have to literally pry the iPod out (scratching both iPod and case in the process) everytime I want to recharge it (and it needs to be able to snap shut)! Is the fit supposed to be this snug? Has anyone else noticed this?
Does anyone have any alternative cases they'd recommend? I'm looking for maximum protection for use when traveling through Africa. (I'm leaving a week from today, so it's also important that I be able to find this online with quick shipping and/or in person).

Kilrathi, have you looked at booq's Podpaq ( http://www.booqbags.com/Detail.bok?no=58) case?
I've tried both the Armor case and the Podpaq: discussed here ( http://ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7868) .

kilarthi,
I am using a Mathias Armour case with a 30GB iPod. I found it a very tight fit to begin with and did the following to 'break it in'
- I compressed the foam at the inner bottom and sides of the case with an AAA battery end
- also VERY SLIGHTLY loosened the 3 screws on the plastic bit at the top of the case. Basically just a tiny twist so that the tension is released a bit and the plastic has a bit more give.
It has been almost 3 months now and after a couple of months of usage the foam inserts have compressed and the iPod fit s nice and easily, I actually had to tighten the screws since it was almost too loose a fit.
When removing the iPod from the case I put one fingernail under the hold tab and with the other finger pry the white plastic lip of the armour outwards. Once the 'hold switch' area is free the iPod slips out easily. Hope my description makes sense.
