Which case for inside of backpack?

Alright crew, need your expert help here.

I have a 3G iPod, and I definitely want a case for it. I'm using the stock Apple case right now, but I'm gonna need more protection for it.

Most of my day, the iPod will be in my backpack...and I'll take it out frequently to use it of course. I am just looking for a case that will protect my iPod while I keep it in my backpack, and something a lil stylish and decent looking since I'll be using it throughout the day.

Here is a picture of my backpack (http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze4494h/BackPack.jpg)

Any recommendations?

I like the iskin but I don't think it'll protect it enough in the backpack...ya know?

That's some Backpack.....
I'd wait for the iSkin, that should do the trick.

haha yeah this backpack goes everywhere with me :)

I like the iSkin..but I don't think it will offer the iPod that much protection in my backpack...I'm not too sure though.

Right now I keepmy Pocket PC in a leather case and that works well...but I'm not sure if I want a bulky leathercase for my iPod?

I know..I'm picky...sorry :)

Questions:

Is the ipod going to rattle around, or live in its own pocket? How much "impact protection" do you need?

How accessable do you want it to be? Will you be using the remote to work the ipod?

# 4 Re: Which case for inside of backpack?
it will have a little bit of rattle in there. There is a pocket that I keep it in inside of the backpack, but the pocket is larger then the iPod...so it does move around a bit.

Not too worried about "impact protection" because that backpack will protect it if the backpack gets hit...I AM worried about when I throw stuff in my backpack and having the other stuff bang or hit against the iPod. Know what I mean?

Accessability is not too much of a concern...if I want to use it I'll just take the iPod out of the backpack...although I guess I could use it with the wired remote.

But to reitterate, the biggest protection I need is from having other items inside of the backpack hitting the iPod.

having the iskin exo with the maclear (free) around it should provide sufficient protection

i recomend ipod armor, its soooo great and doesnt add alot of extra weight, its cool looking, and if something falls ontop of it its fine, also if you slam your back pack against something its also ok, i dropped my ipod from a normal size desk onto wood and it didn't miss a beat. its worth the extra money, and the matias people are really nice and it has a warrenty. its not as big of a deal as everyone says it is to flip it open to see the screen, and if you put the song on, whats the chances that you have no idea who sings it or the name?

Heh the iskin wont do anything, get an isee or something. Or maybe a vaja case. Maybe the marware ceo classic if they ever decide to ship

The Marware Sportsuit Convertible is what you need. Provides excellent protection all-around and with a removeable lid all of the ipods function are available and the screen is protected to with a clear vinyl.

I think the iPod Armor is the perfect case for your purposes. It protects the ipod really well.

Get the DLO Action Jacket. It's at everythingipod.com. I keep my ipod in my backpack a lot too, and this case is perfect. I don't have to worry about my ipod at all. Plus it is agood loking case as well. It is neoprene, has a screen protector, removable belt clip, and a removeable armband for running - key. It is also about $15 cheaper than the Marware case and not nearly as bulky. I love mine.

Thanks for the suggestion so far :)

Gonna check out the links now..

the iPod armor was one of my first idea's too...but you can't really access the controls from the case right? You have to take it out of it or at least open it up?

Thanks for putting up with me so far guys :) the search continues..hehe

That's a good idea...keep the maclear around the ipod and iskin while it's in the backpack, and when I take it out to use it just take it out of the maclear case...hm...

That booqpaq thing also seems like a feasible idea...nice looking case too :)

That backpack is cool. Looks like a ninja turtle on steroids. I could use one to deflect an Afghanistan RPG and still listen to my iPod. What is it called I need one.

I just looked at the picture of your backpack. You said you wanted a case that was somewhat stylish. You are worried about being stylish and walking around with that thing on your back? That is the weirdest looking thing I have ever seen.

# 16 Re: Which case for inside of backpack?
Get an iskin. Btw what kind of backpack is that? Does it have some special purpose? It looks like you could plow snow with that thing! Does it open up to be some sort of raft or tent even? Or does it have some parachute that pops out? If so...who makes it and how much?

# 17 Re: Which case for inside of backpack?
red - Well the part about being stylish, is because when I'm at work and up at college I'll be taking it out and using it...so you know, it's still gotta look kinda sexy ;-) lol!

I don't know...right now I use the stock case that it comes with...I guess that's better than putting the iPod in styrofoam and wrapping it in ceran wrap :-P

The Backpack is a Boblbee backpack, it's a hardshell backpack. My primary purpose was for carrying around my laptop, but I use it as my main transportation for school books and gadgets...don't carry around the laptop as much anymore.

That would be great if it could be a survival tool...like turn into a raft, or snow sled, or is bullet proof...u know, the necessaties...

# 18 Re: Which case for inside of backpack?
i'd have to second on the ipod armor. you'll never give a second thot to tossing a book in on top with your ipod in this thing. i'll be trusting my ipod to an armor case in my jacket pocket all winter on the ski slopes.

don't see a big need to get at the controls all the time, with the remote. and it's not like the case doesn't flip right open if you need to change playlists or something, just like most of them do.

it's a pretty beefy little case, yet doesn't add a lot of weight. plus their reps are kewl. :D

Cool thanks for the input

Would anyone be able to take some pics of that armor case?

I've got it narrowed down between the iPod Armor and one of the Vaja Cases. The iSkins still have a very small chance, but I think I'm lookin for more protection...so I think it's between the Armor and the Vaja :)

The iPod Armor pics are really detailed, even threw a ruler in there! Thanks for the pics rice mac!

I just ordered a Flipstand last week...I think that is the case that will fit my needs for right now.

But more than likely I'll end up ordering an iPod armor in the future, just cause of the type protection that it offers.

yinyang - just for reference, here is a pic of the backpack. (http://userpages.umbc.edu/~aarceo1/BackPack.jpg)

most cases you have to open up to access the controls
so its no big deal, that thing looks like it can withstand a nuclear explosion...

# 25 Re: Which case for inside of backpack?
I'm saying the ipod armour is probably the best bet. If you wanna be tacky just wrap ur ipod up in bubble wrap. (I know thats a retarted idea) but i did it once to protect it when i went mountain biking. Worked like a charm but almost doubled the size though.

Check out the ipod armour. I'd get one if they weren't so expensive. I just blew all my money on 2 exos. I'll just use bubble wrap. LOL! :D

I guess within the next couple of days we'll see if it can withstand Hurricane Isabella :p

OK, heres what you do. You take two hard pillows and one down pillow. You put the ipod with remote in the down pillow and put that between the hard pillows. Then stuff all that in the pack. Im just playin dogg. Get an Iskin and put the thing in your pocket! Or, Im sure you will be carring a sleeping bag anywhere you would be taking that back pack, so just used the remote to extend the headphone wire and put the ipod (in exo) in the bag case.

# 28 Re: Which case for inside of backpack?
the pillow idea sounds good, although I think that nick954
bubble wrap idea has it beat ;)

But I did order the flipstand case, and I will eventually get the Armor case as well.

What I'm *thinking* about doing is, since the length of the remote is just perfect, is attaching the remote to some part of the backpack, lets say on the shoulder strap. That way I have easy access to the remote and the iPod (in the armor/flipstand) will be able to stay in the backpack, well protected.

But that's an idea for later down the road ;) Thanks for the suggestion Infamouschitlin!

but for now...

IronSerif,
Which Boblbee case? Megapolis?
If it is not too much bother, would you mind sending me a PM or mail with your thoughts and comments on the Boblbee case. I really want to buy one but haven't seen or met another owner. One of my main attractions to it is that it would be great on a bike. Since I would have to order sight unseen, I am looking for as much feedback.

cheers

I've got a Boblbee Megalopolis and use the SideWinder pockets that is an accessory from Boblbee to put my iPod and accessories (cords, iTrip, etc). I do have the Carribean Blue iSkin as well.

Ah, cool accessory. If anything, I'd get the Lumbar cassette for extra storage of the cargo bridge

Got my flipstand yesterday! I was sooo happy, I thought the delivery would have gotten delayed cause of Isabel.

Time to retire the pillows and bubble wrap...for now :p

I have a regular old jansport that I use all the time...and I keep my iPod in my iSkin (and screen protector) with its cables in the MacClear zip case. It does great...when put on "hold," of course. :P

Sounds good Jaclyn! Which color iskin did you get? Your iPod doesn't get too banged up in your backpack?

I also found a really helpful tip in this thread here. (http://ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7433)

Basically I cut the piece of plastic that was shipped with the iPod and used it in conjunction with my flipstand so I would have some protection for the scroll wheel and buttons.

Works really really well.
