Speck Flip Stand
How many people have pre-ordered the new flipstand for Gen. 3 iPods from Speck Products. This looks, to me anyway, to be one of the best cases on the market. Anybody already have one already or have any thoughts on this? I am looking for a case that provides protection, accessibilty and good looks all in one package.

I have it, bought it at MacWorld Expo. What do you want to know?

Maestrosteve, can you post some pics of the flipstand? The pictures on the website are terrible and computed generated (inaccurate) as well. Thanks!

I'm not able to post pictures, sorry. Wish I could help you there.

maestrosteve,
I would like to know if the speck flipstand case provides protection for the iPod's screen. I cannot tell from the pictures on their website. Also could you elaborate on the "dock" that comes with it. Something about not having to remove it from the case to connect it to the dock? Thank you.

I have an original flipstand case for my classic 20gb ipod, which I like very much. I think that speckproducts is making a big mistake at not making a clear case for the classic ipods as well as for the new ones.
# 6 Re: Speck Flip Stand
Does the original have a screen protector or is it just a cut out?
# 7 Re: Speck Flip Stand
The original has a hard plastic screen protector.
# 8 Re: Speck Flip Stand
The screen is totally protected, as the ipod is in a totally clear hard case with openings for (in the new ipod) the 4 buttons, and headphone/remote jack. Even the touch wheel is covered by a folding piece which folds out to become a stand, and at the same time reveals the opening for the bottom dock connector.
Trojan066:
The dock is similar to Apple's dock, just a little taller, is angled, and the ipod in the flipstand case fits into the grooves in Speck's dock, where it wouldn't in Apple's dock. It's a perfect fit. You just need Apple's cable, the one that came with the ipod to hook up the dock, pretty much the same way you need Apple's cable to use Apple's dock.

How does the case fit in your pocket? How thick is the plastic around it?
# 10 Re: Speck Flip Stand
If you are asking about the case for the classic ipods. The case does add some bulk but not that much. It fits in my pocket with out any problems getting it in or out. The plastic looks to be a little under 1/16th of an inch thick. I just wish they would make a clear one.

The only thing I don't understand about this case is how you push the buttons. You have to open up the latch so there is something annoying and protruding out when you touch the buttons?
# 12 Re: Speck Flip Stand
If you are asking about the 3rd generation ipods:
There are 4 holes in the case where the buttons are, so you don't have to open the case to push the buttons. You never have to open the case at all, not even to dock it. The only reason to pop the top open would be to just move the hold switch.
As far as thrillz3's question goes - It adds maybe an eigth of an inch all around on each side. Virtually nothing. Fabulous protection.

What about when using the dial? Do you have to unhook or open anything for access to that? I see holes in the case for the 4 buttons, but I see you have to open the stand part of the case to have access to the volume and center buttons.

The stand part flips open. It is attached. Think of it as an attached cover to the dial. That cover of the dial acts as a stand only if you flip it open all the way, but to use the dial, just flip the cover about an inch. You don't have to open the top of the case, and like I stated earlier, you never have to remove the ipod from this case to use any of it's functions.
