Thumbs up for Waterfields case
After much deliberation and following of threads in this forum I opted to buy Waterfield's iPod case for my 15gig. I paid $40 plus $23 via Airborne Express.
I ordered/paid for it online last Monday and it was on my doorstep on Thursday afternoon! California, U.S. to Austria, Europe mind you. I was floored by the speed and efficiency of the shipper! I DO realize that shipping was 1/3 of the overall cost but given the security it gave me and their performance I would still recommend it to other non-U.S. consumers.
My thoughts on the case itself: Well I chose it for the following reasons:
- good workmanship/doesn't look and isn't cheap/is durable
- no silly/unnecessary logos on the case cover
- wanted something other than leather (executive-agenda-looking) and plastic (less durable) that would protect iPod from fall
- lets me store earplugs and operate iPod while in case
My expectations were fulfilled 100%. I only remove the iPod from the case for dock charging since I've noticed that the unit gets too warm while in the case.
I would have preferred it to be all-white in colour in keeping with the overall white-iPod-theme but then again you can't have everything.
Hope my experience will be useful for all those considering buying this case.
This is my first time posting pics so I hope they aren't too small/big/crappy:

I got a Waterfield for my new 15gig iPod, too, and am very happy with it. I'm in Seattle and the case fits perfectly with the outdoor gear look here. Also, well, it's been known to drizzle frequently here. I thought the folks at Waterfield were lovely to deal with. The shipping was only $5 and it was here the second day after I ordered it.
The case does hide the iPod look, which I miss a bit, but I find I'm just as glad to hide it when I'm out and about by myself, especially at night. Wouldn't want anyone to be tempted to snatch my baby.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention how helpful and friendly the waterfield staff were- it must sound too good to be true but they answered by emails promptly and personally
;-)
# 4 Re: Thumbs up for Waterfields case
That looks nice!
# 5 Re: Thumbs up for Waterfields case
I have to agree, I have one now for my 2nd Gen 10GB. Case was shipped fast, and they even sent a personaly thank you card. Very nice indeed.
I don't remember paying $40.00 for my case, so I was a bit suprised when looking for my 3ed Gen (ordered last night).
anyway, I've been very happy with the one I have now, so going to bite the bullet and odered one more.

Wow! Thanx for the kind words.
You can literally track the speed at which the case finds its way to your house. Do tell us what you think of it when you get it.
And if (God forbid) it really doesn't meet your expectations then you can send it back for a refund. They are THAT nice and THAT confident of customer satisfaction. ;-)

For those of you that said that the shipping was fast, did it come before the estimated shipping date from Airborne Express? Cause when I check it, it says the 24th, and i ordered it on thursday? thats 7 days, hardly fast compared to what you guys have been saying. Anybody shed some light on this?!?!?

I ordered mine on Monday and it left their premises on that same day (which was an exception cos on the website it says next day shipping).
I had airborne Express with an estimate 2-5 days for delivery. In my case this was exactly true, since the case came on Thursday - 3 days later.
What did the email confirming your order say about when your order left? If it said Friday then they will count Friday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday as shipping days cos of the weekend.
I didn't know Airborne express was an option for U.S. customers. Did you choose Ground Service, Priority mail, or Guaranteed 2 day service?
# 11 Re: Thumbs up for Waterfields case
I ordered it on thursday, it shipped on friday, and I did get ground shipping. I was just thinking that it might be as fast as the guy that said he got it second day after ordering.

just an FYI, I ordered on on the 7/17. it shipped that day via Airborne Express. When I checked the Airborne Express website it also said delivery in 7+ days.
Tracking todays shows it should be delivered today (thats 3 business days).

The guys at Waterfield Designs are way awesome. I ordered my Super Dooper Gen3 iPod case with $5 ground shipping yesterday and it was on my doorstep this morning! Now thats what I call fast shipping! I guess it helps that I also live in the Bay Area where they are located.
Gary and his staff at WD are the BEST!

# 19 Re: Thumbs up for Waterfields case
I just ordered mine today, I got white as well. I will let you guys know what I think as soon as I get it. I am new to the portable music market so I don't have very good headphones (I have some misc. Sony wraparounds, and the Optimus Pro-135, i'm not sure if they are good or not), so I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions for a poor college student. I have noticed that many people have Sennheiser headphones..would those be good for me? Let me know what you guys think, all suggestions are welcome. :)
Thanks,

::Edit
Oh, and I forgot to mention, please recommend headphones that won't make me look like a dork walking around campus :D thanks
# 20 Re: Thumbs up for Waterfields case
I've got a quick question for you all who already have your waterfield case. I know the lid isn't really made to fold back, since it would cover the slit and the belt clip nubbin. Is there anything in it that makes it rigid so that it can't be folded back? Or, can it lay relatively flat back there out of the way assuming there was something to hold it there?
Thanks.
# 21 Re: Thumbs up for Waterfields case
How strong is the belt clip? Is it as strong as the 'ulra' clip on the vaja or extrememac?
And can anyone throw up a URL for this company's site?
Cheers
# 22 Re: Thumbs up for Waterfields case
hiya!
the belt clip is very strong!
Url for the manufacturer is http://www.sfbags.com
flowflow - not sure if I understand you - do you want it to fold back or not?
Due to its natural weight - if held vertically the lid will automatically fold down - but it also stays in position if folded back, especially when I have the earplugs in the pouch.
As a matter of fact - I have the ipod in the case all the time and while driving I keep the lid folded back so that I can browse tunes if necessary
hope that helped
:p
# 23 Re: Thumbs up for Waterfields case
Ah yes thanks. Their site states that it is the ultra clip as used on the vaja etc.
I was hoping for an all-white version rather than just white trim on the sides. I took the trouble to get white fontopias and the white belkin phone splitter.
I have to say that from the photos it's not really nice to look at. At $40 you're most of the way to a Vaja and it's over $10 more expensive than the extrememac or DLO sports case...
# 24 Re: Thumbs up for Waterfields case
Yeah it's always hard to decide on buying something based on photos - I'd say order both (if you can afford it) and send back the one you like less... I assume both companies have a money back guarantee (you just pay transport)

how about a link?
# 26 Re: Thumbs up for Waterfields case
a link to what exactly?
# 27 Re: Thumbs up for Waterfields case
The website for the Waterfield iPod case is http://www.sfbags.com
They seem to have some nice stuff; personally, I can't decide between the Waterfield case and the BOOQ case (http://www.booqbags.com). They are similar in many ways.
I'm glad you guys like the Waterfield case in person, since it doesn't look particularly good in pictures.
# 28 Re: Thumbs up for Waterfields case
kingfelix,
I both several items from Waterfield recently including the Ipod case and the Ipod Gearpouch.
Both items are very nice, well made and sturdy. You will like them.
The service at Waterfield is simply great.
Although I really like the backpack from Booq. Thanks for the link. :)
