Problems with default iPod case?

Hi all,
I just bought an iPod (15GB) and it should arrive here Monday or Tuesday. Will the case that comes with it be OK to use for 3 or so weeks while I wait for 3G cases to come out? I will not be using my iPod for anything crazy, probably just for subway commutes, at work, maybe lifting weights etc.

I ask because I remember someone saying something about the poor build quality of Apple's default case, perhaps even alluding to it scratching up his iPod.

Thanks,
A soon-to-be proud iPod owner

P.S. I'd rather not buy any of the 3G cases out on the market right now. I am looking for something along the lines of an iSkin, Speckproducts' iPod skin or the DLO JamJacket. Maybe an iSee.

If I were you, I wouldn't put your iPod anywhere near the Apple bundled case unless you wrap it in Saran first. It totally scratched up my 15 GB when I had it, but I recently upgraded to the 30 GB...lesson learned.

I agree! Couldn't have said it any better. There are people that shrug it off and claim that only the apple tag on the iPod will scratch your ipod. If you hear something like that, step back and run. When you receive your iPod, take a look at the inside of the bundled iPod case made by Apple, you'll notice its made out of one of the rougehst material ever. Pretty sad actually, for something that serves as a protection for your iPod and to prevent it from scratches unfortunately just leads to more scratches everytime you place your ipod in the case. Wonder who was the genius that decided to use some rough material inside the iPod case

I concur. Personally, I think the bundled case is worthless. My new 30 GB iPod never was placed inside of it.

I'd have really been upset if I paid $39 for it (which is what Apple charges for it separately). For $39, it ought to be made of leather, with a very soft suede lining.

they definitely need to make a more functional case...one that allows you to view the screen, dock and use the controls.

Roger that. Saran wrap it is for now. Thanks all!

Saran wrap SUCKS! I tried it and there's absolutely no way to make it smooth. It also leaves behind a "residue".
