How much battery life do you get from your 3rd Gen ipod?

Does anyone find it weird that 8 hours, the intended time that Apple has made it, has recieved (at the time of posting) 0 votes?

i get maybe 4?? the new ipod battery life sucks. But then again i guess i kind of take it for granted. Its small, holds 1000's of songs, looks bad ### and works in my car. My old mp3 player used 1 AAA battery and lasted about 13 continuous hours. But then again it held about 30 songs max.

I was worried that there was something wrong with the battery in my new 15gig pod, I was only getting four or five hours of average use on one charge. So yesterday I did the test, charged it fully and left it playing, and indeed I did actually get the full eight hours from it - but this is with no backlight, no fast-forward/rewind, no playing around with the menu, and no earphones connected...

So eight hours may be accurate but it's hardly reflective of real use. I do think they could have been a bit more honest about actual battery life in their promotional lit.

I guess if your using all the features on it like games and stuff it will kill the battery. The ipod does have 8 hours of battery life if you don't use the features. Apple couldn't really say it has 4 or 5 when infact i could have 8. Some people use all the features, some don't, there isn't a way of determining the average battery life since there is so much of a span so they go with the maximum life.

With "normal" play...not too much backlight..."normal" song search and play...I get only about 3-4 hours. 8...EIGHT...a joke...must be no touch play which is just not normal. An advertiser's LIE!

I get 6+hrs with pretty active usage (stops, starts, skips, new playlists, etc.), but no backlight.

Works well for me as my primary use location is at work & lunch hour. 6hrs is a good duration, I just mount the iPod when I get home.

I get close to 8 hours of continuous music playing on a full charge. If I play 1 hour of music, then turn it off for a day, then play 1 hour, etc... I can only get about 4 hours of music before I have to charge.

I've never let my iPod run for all the battery life, since I usually recharge when it gets to about 20%. I'm guessing my life is about 3 - 5 hours. 8 hours is a joke.

I get 8 hours continously, but I usually have it playing for an hour or so before turning it off.

I get about 7...but its not continuous use. I don't doubt Apple's claim of 8 hours continuous use.

Between using a tape adaptor in the car and those power-hungry neodymium drivers, I have to keep my pod's volume at about 75% the whole time. On a plane, barely touching it, the battery rocked through a 5 hour flight with half a battery to spare. But if you're shuttling around your library, the battery dies a lot faster.

It's not the best battery, but the real problems only manifest if you play with it a lot during the day.

On average i get about 4 hours during the whole with skips ans sleep but on full charge it lasted just under 8 hours continuously

I know no one's going to believe this, but..... when new I timed 9 hrs, 20 min. total play time on a full, over night charge. The time displayed in file format agreed. After 2 months use it's still over 9 hours, even when paused over night. So..... am I blessed by the Li-Ion gods er is nearly everyone else figgerin' their time correctly? Hmmm . . . . .
