Re-wiring the Ipod remote control?

I am getting sick of having to find my ipod around my car to change tracks, play/pause etc. So I am investigating the possibility of re-wiring the remote control so that the buttons can be relocated onto an empty panel in the car, I was wondering if anyone had any experiance with rewiring the remote control, because this could turn out to be a really handy way of controlling the ipod having a play / pause - next / prev track button above my stereo head unit.

So i am guessing you just re-wire the buttons and wire them to other buttons that i would purchase that i could use you can see from this page (http://www.maushammer.com/systems/ipod-remote/ipod-remote.html) the size of the contact i would have to solder are really small! and not to mention the fact there is 4 points connectable.. compaired with two which i would expect which you can see if you look at this image (http://www.maushammer.com/systems/ipod-remote/button-side-med.jpg). Now you see the circle things are the buttons..

anyone got any good advice?
