ipod portable hard drive

what do they mean when they say ipod doubles as a portable hard drive? it cant store data files from your computer, cant it?

yeah, u may use the iPod as portable hard drive when u activate the disk Mode option.

Yes, the iPod CAN be used as a removable hard drive.

For Windows: If you choose 'Enable Disk Mode' in Windows iPod Manager (comes with 3rd generation iPods and is located in Windows taskbar) you can use the iPod as a removable hard drive to copy files to and fro. Or you can also enable disk mode in Musicmatch's Options>iPod tab. You should see the iPod icon appear in your My Computer window.

For Mac: Enable FireWire Disk Mode in iTunes>iPod preferences (lower right corner) while iPod is highlighted in the 'Source' list. The iPod will mount on the desktop. Use it as a removable hard drive and copy files to and fro. Remember to eject from desktop before removing the iPod from the dock or FireWire cable.

what kind of documents can u store in it? is it possible to copy word documents?

I think you can copy what you want mate! Any type of file!

But obviously you cant view these files!

ya, think of it as a normal firewire drive with a display... but the display wouldnt do anything

can u copy a mac word file and open it on a windows word file!?
