Able To Tell Age of iPod By Serial Number?

I've recently bought a 'previously loved' 2nd gen 20GB iPod and I'm wondering if there is a way to establish the age of the iPod by the serial/part numbers?

Nope - u can estabilish where the ipod was sold - ie USA or Europe or Asia etc..but not heard of the age though logically speaking..it shld be decipherable..with a lot of time and a lot of serial numbers.
gonna be tough to get serial numbers here though..i wldnt want to share mine...

Apple probably does keep information about each iPod manufactured, through each iPod's serial number in its databases for inventory reasons. It's just impossible to get such information from them.ZoidbergD at 2007-11-15 14:16:05 >
