1.3 For Windows is taking so long, perhaps...
Perhaps they have given up coding the 1.3 for Windows because so many people have requested 2 for the old iPods.
This thought has just gone through my head and i know its stupid but perhaps thats whats going to happen? its happened before with other companys, an update takes a long long time to come out, turns out thats because they gave up on the original and just went the whole hog..
So perhaps they arent gonna release 1.3 for old Windows iPods, they are just getting rid of the bugs in 2.0 and coding it for the oldies?
Well, i can hope anyway! :)
Just my random thought.

i would think that the wait would be due to itunes music store coming out for the pc. as of right now there is no apple approved way to use any of the features on a pc, such as aac. i think that when the itunes music store is released, you'll get 1.3 like the rest of us.
3 weeks isn't THAT long of a time.

My opinion:
1.3 was only released to provide compatibility with the iTunes Music Store.
The iTunes Music Store is currently Mac-Only.
Therefore, there is no need whatsoever to provide 1.3 for WinniePods.
When the iTunes Music Store is available for Windows (That is, when they're done developing iTunes for Windows), Apple will release a firmware update for WinniePods which will make them compatible with the iTunes Music Store: 1.3 or whatever's the most current at the time.
You don't need 1.3 on your WinniePod. It won't do anything for you. Use 1.2.6 and don't worry about it.

Hmm yeah i guess your right.. Dang! All i want is Firmware 2! Actaully, i just checked back to the 1.3 update page (http://www.apple.com/ipod/download) and they have changed "Early May" to "Available Soon"
Speaking of iTunes on the PC, i was just looking at the iTunes website.. It looks so good! This summer i'm hopefully gonna be able to get a laptop, the thought of getting an iBook seriously went through my head, and i've been using PCs for years! That Switch page is very convincing!
Unfortunatly, I just dont have the money.. Ill have to hope that iTunes for Windows is as good as the Mac version!
Thanks for your reply

I agree with Kurt. I am hoping out a slim hope that 1.3 will enable playcounts (ratings and OTG would be nice too, but if Apple only wants to support new ipods with this I can live with it), but my head tells me it's only going to give us AAC support (and the ability to use Itunes music store)...
Be interesting to see how they are going to make Itunes for windows available to the older ipods--free, or fee. Probably free, so Apple can get the most out of their music store. The windows availability of Itunes is going to be bigger than the 1.3 update, IMHO (although I use MC9 which I like better than Itunes--but Itunes will be a vast improvement over mmjb).
Just my .02 cents...

well i just use 1.3 that was released for the mac on my winpod...
in the windows forum there is a link that has a download for it...
It uses the 1.2.6 installer, but actually installs version 1.3. for windows with aac support etc

I've been wondering the same thing, seems unlikely though
They're probably just so busy repairing all the bugs in version 2.0 for the new models and haven't any time to do the 1.3 version for us pc podders (great switch initiative apple!!).
I don't think they're waiting for windows iTunes 4 as development has apparently just started and won't finish until end of this year (apparently anyway)

I don't suspect the wait for iTunes for Windows to be much longer. It would be rediculously stupid on Apple's part, IMO, to only start the development of iTunes after the launch of the music store, let alone waiting to see if the venture would be a success (IMO, a no-brainer).
That said, as much as I hate to say it, I also see no reason for Windows users to receive the v1.3 firmware until Apple provides software that supports the AAC format.

Well it is definately a possibility.

Well according to a news piece on the lounge page around the time the new ipods were announced, apple had posted an ad looking for someone to develop the software.
The ephpod guy was apparently also asked... (or was that just my imagination??)
But i'm pretty sure iTunes4 for PC won't be released until around december, which is quite a long time from now, and quite a long time to hang around waiting for 1.3 for winpods. So i would just use the mac-upgrade hack...
