Got tired of waiting for Apple fix!

Concerning the track skipping problem, I just got tired of waiting for Apple's firmware fix for this problem. Who know's if Apple will even fix this on their next firmware update. So I used Ashampoo's mp3 checker to check all my files for corrupt mp3's. It turned out that about 10% of my files were corrupt, about 200 songs. The file checker gave me the option to re-encode the corrupt files, and just like that, they were all fixed. I uploaded the files back to the ipod and the track skipping problem was gone. I recommend all the users having this problem do the same. If you have corrupt files, you should just take the time to fix them anyway. It doesnt take that long, and it might save you some disappointment if you find out that the next firmware update does not address this issue.

Do you have a link for this application? I have been having the same sort of problems.

The Ashampoo homepage at http://www.ashampoo.com has it, and it's strictly for Windows.

Yes, i have been using that program since a while ago and it fixes all of the skipping problems i had. I posted a link to it both on the old forums and on these. It is very useful, and i am trying to duplicate the technology for use in one of my own programs.

is it really an apple issue if YOUR mp3s are corrupt? seems like you fixed it yourself... even with a firmware update, your mp3s are bad.

i tried to use ashampoo and it said all 900 mp3s i made with EAC are currupt. I tried CBR and --alt-preset standard it still said currupt. And i don't want to re-encode with a crappy Ashampoo mp3 encoder to make it non-currupt and sound like its currupt lol. Maybe ashampoo just says its currupt? is there any way to fix my mp3s without reencoding?

It is an apple issue if they worked just fine on the old ipod.

Its both the mp3's fault and Apple's fault. The mp3's are corrupt, but most mp3 players (soft and hard) overcome the problems in the mp3 files and pass them off as slight gaps which are not noticable.

Well we have the new firmware (and I would take the new firmware with the bug than the old firmware without the bug!)

Rather have the new firmware with the bug than the old firmware?

umm...let me think about that..no not quite.
How about a bug free firmware and you can attahc whatever number you like to it.

that would be nice but you have to give apple programmers some respect i mean if it weren't for their firmware development your ipod would be a lifeless coaster now! and as they make new features and tweaks they may disrupt other code. come on man give them a break!

# 17 Re: Got tired of waiting for Apple fix!
yea, that would be my point. I am not asking for a new firmware. As opposed to the rest of the impatient "petitioners" on this board I am not busting Apples chops for new features or anything else for that matter. I can care less about new firmware unless it fixes problems. If I had a choice I would take v 1.26 on my "new" IPod and give up the crap that is known as 2.0 in a heartbeat. Unfortunately I don't have that choice.

But then you have those on this board that despite all the complaints and known bugs of 2.0 won't stop screaming for it. Makes no sense but that doesn't stop the petitioners.

I have an old IPod and a new. If they don't give me the new "features" of 2.0 on my old IPod I don't really care because it works great and I can make my playlist at home if it means that much to me. If I really really NEEDED OTG I would have bought one that came with that feature, not bought an IPod and then cried about it every chance I got screaming how Apple has poor customer relations, hates me, is trying to screw me, will never get another dollar from me etc etc... But since I did spend 400 on a new IPod I would ask that Apple at least correct the problems on their units right out of the box. Apple really does need to fix 2.0 as it seems like the Q&A was pretty poor. Most of these bugs are apparent in the first half hour of listening and putting the Pod through the paces. Did they really check this version at all? Probably not, Jobs wanted the IMS online and the Pod out same day. So I give the developers a break like you said I just hope they fix the problems.
I have mentioned my feelings on applying the new firmware to the old IPod?s in other posts and threads and I am sure soon enough either a moderator will explain why it is completely justifiable for everyone to cry or I should tone down my disagreement but you know what I am not.
I started reading these forums about 3 months ago and always found it to be a great source of info for MP3's, digital music and IPod?s but now those same people who gave such great info seem like a bunch of impatient and ignorant cry babies. There can be 30 posts after this explaining about what a person gets when they buy a firmware upgradeable product or the relationship that Apple is harming by not adding support for different formats or new features or a host of other reasons why they should petition and threaten never to buy products. But in the end it?s all BS - Apple has never stated they would not offer those features on the old IPod. Not once did they say that. And you all know it. They merely stated that 2.0 would not be released for the old IPods. Nothing about those features never being available. Just a firmware version. That?s it. But does that stop you? Of course not. Because if you are not complaining then apparently there is nothing better to write about.
The best thing Apple could do for everyone is to NOT release 2.0 for the old IPod?s. Why? Because its crap and buggy and just plain ole' sucks. But you all know that already don't you? Does that stop you? No. Because then you will just say that you want 2.0 but without the bugs. Ok, well the new IPod?s haven't even gotten the bugs worked out and those people don't even have the option of rolling back. So why doesn't everybody hold their horses, relax, get a hobby, take their mind off of the glorious 2.0 update and before you know it you might have what you want. And if they never update it? So what - you have a great a MP3 that does what you paid for WHEN you paid for it. Stop complaining!
You would think that your #### IPods stopped working when they released 2.0.

Wow. Are you asking to get banned?

Stating your opinion is fine, but your tone is indeed a bit too condescending. And for someone who's spent the majority of his 10 posts here berating everyone else for being whiners and complainers, you sure do a lot of complaining.
My suggestion to you is that you reign in the tirades and state your opinion more politely. If you must be snarky, you will have to get your snark on elsewhere.

There's probably a script somewhere to do this. I've never had a skipping problem so I need more details. Does skipping happen intermittently or does it happen only some types of files?
BTW there are more than 180 scripts for iTunes here.iTunes Scripts (http://www.malcolmadams.com/itunes/index.shtml)

Snarky?

asking to be banned? no
afraid of being banned? of course not. This is an internet message board for god sakes. My 10 posts conveyed teh message I wanted them to.
I am posting my opinions. Snarky or not?. If you want to take the easy way out and ban me go right ahead. Its typical moderator behavior anyway. So if you get your kicks and little power trips from banning then go ahead and shut the name down. Useful information has ceased on these boards since the crying for 2.0 started anyway. And if I had another opinion to share I could just create a new name. News flash - its not that tough.

Wouldn't want to muddle the boards and be too "snarky" or anything.

ah small-mindedness in all it's glory...

nah just kidding... but i do think that companies should realise that whilst customers have no right to demand updates and freebies etc etc, it sure makes them a hell of a lot happier.

A customer who feels as though he has recieved more than his money's worth from a company is a happy customer and 4 times as likely to return to that company.

Additional research costs for releasing 2.0 for old 'podders

vs.

all old users buying iPod 29? with enhanced rear-end scratcher

Apple should do the math and realise that whilst not many people will buy the new one for the few features extra they have, pleased old 'podders would probably stick with the product in the long term and buy future releases with non-hardware compatible changes (i.e. colour screen, built in flotation device etc..)

wish me luck on my abitur!!!! (a-level equivalent!!!!)

Saying not to complain because you have a product that does what it is supposed to do when you bought it is small minded? ok....

I think the point here is everyone who disagrees tend to take one or take lines out of a post and focus on those, if you look at the overall point I am making I don't think many would disagree.

Complaining about something that A - hasn't even been decided on by Apple and B - complaining on the basis that an older model should immediately be updated to a level that even the new models have not achieved successfully really doesn't make all that much sense.

All I am saying is give Apple a break. Give them a month or two buffer and see where they are going with their firmware before you take up arms and attack the establishment. They may just surprise you.

as i posted in the firmware 2.0 thread, these discussions are not moving forward, but rather have turned into bickering sessions. i?ve seen enough flames and enough flame baiting. hence i?m closing this thread. if you want to discuss wishes for future ipods please go to the wishlist forum and do so there in a more civilized manner.

neoaxim, your pushbacks against eustacescrubb are intolerable. he (eustacescrubb) has invested a lot of time and energy into helping others on this board. he has done this in his own free time, never asking for thanks. for this we all owe him some respect, instead you choose to dish out completely uncalled for insults. you claim that Useful information has ceased on these boards since the crying for 2.0 started anyway. why then didn?t you change that instead of constantly flaming and flamebaiting? you were politely warned to comply with the guidelines (http://www.ipodlounge.com/forumguide.html) via pm. you choose to not only not comply, but rather strike back at the very person who has shown you so much tolerance. eustacescrubb isn?t here at the present moment to answer you and i have no intension of waiting (though it may be the better course of action). therefore i am banning you for two weeks after which, provided you apologise to eustacescrubb, you can post again, if you choose to do so.
i would like to welcome you back at that time in the hope, that you have rethought your actions and are willing to converse with the members of this board in a civilized manner.

edit:

as for your ability to do something any eight year old could (create a new username), if it gives you kicks, go ahead! interesting, that you think, just because i wasn?t going to dignify your childishness (ranting about creating a new username), i was unaware such a thing existed.
