Problems on new iPod?
Hey,
I am currently an owner of a 10gb Generation 2 iPod for Windows. I have the perfect oppurtunity to upgrade to the 15gb gen 3 iPod for Win because my brother wants to buy 10gb from me, i wanted to upgrade to the gen 3 anyway, so basically ill hopefully be getting a Gen 3 15gb for nothing (apart from what i just paid for the 10gb one)
Anyway, ive been searching and looking through some of the problems found by the new iPod owners on this forum, and the only one that i can see is the problem of songs skipping because of corrupt mp3 files.
As one user suggested, i downloaded Ashampoos mp3 check and convert program and an alarmingly high number (perhaps 3/10) of my mp3s are corrupt, according to it. This is apparently the cause of mp3s skipping on the new iPod.
The thing is, I have no problem playing these on both my computer and my current Gen 2 iPod, so would I still experience the skipping problem?
Any other dodgy problems with the Gen3 compared to the Gen2?
Thanks for your help in advance :)
Laurie

lozzd,
Anyone who gives you the nice "its your problem" answer to the problem of MP3's skipping is giving YOU the way to correct a problem that should be corrected in the firmware.
I have an old 20 gig and new 15 gig and my biggest complaint about the "new" IPod (besides shorter battery life) is the skipping from one song to another.
You are exactly right that these files play just fine on older gen IPods as well as PC's and other MP3 players.
The problem resides in Gen 3's heightened sensitivity to MP3 file imperfections which despite popular, and uninformed belief, do not just occur to "downloaded" Mp3's off P2P networks.
I believe that Apple will fix the issue though in their next firmware revision so if you like the other aspects on the new IPod and have an opportunity to "trade up" as it were I would go ahead and deal with the issue for the time being.

Ah, sounds good, thanks for making that clear. So why have they increased the sensitivity?! it makes no sense to me! The Gen2 played fine, so they changed something so that many users have problems?! Very confusing. Still, i think i could put up with it for the time being, i could even take advantage of the mp3 to mp3 convert in Ashampoo mp3 Check and convert, which supposidely fixes the mp3. Thats if i had too much of a problem with it.
Anyway, thanks for clarifying that for me.
Any other problems people have been having?
Thanks

It is true that mp3 players can skip because of corrupt mp3 files, but the bugs that people have been experiencing (myself included) is when perfectly fine mp3 files play for about 30 seconds and then the iPod skips on to another song. You can go back on the iPod, and the player will play the song just fine. It is not fixable (at least until Apple releases a fix) and it is incredibly annoying!
