Help! New 15 GB iPod - Yet to be enjoyed

Can someone please help me? I received my new 15 GB iPod a little over a week ago from Apple.com and I have yet to enjoy it. My system is XP and I have musicmatchbox and ephpod installed. My first problem is that while the iPod is docked, it always has "Do Not Disconnect". Even when I eject or unmount it. I have never gotten the "Ok to Disconnect" message. I get the "iPod is full" message only after downloading 40 songs or so. I just recently was able to get a little over 100 songs sync'd, but that was because I left everything connected for days. The transfer rate is terribly slow. I have ordered a usb 2.0 / firewire pci card for my desktop. Could the usb 1.1 possibly be my problem? Lastly, I noticed that when I sync from musicmatchbox, I get the named playlist on my ipod and a blank (no name) playlist with a duplicate of songs. How do I fix this? Which one of the software packages: ephpod or musicmatchbox is best to use?

I am a computer programmer and this is baffling me!

OK, first off. USB1.1 is way to slow. Either go w/firewire or get a USB 2 card.

Second, ditch MMJB. I'm partial to Media Center 9 (MC9), but ephpod works well and since you're just trying to get you set up, let's use that for now.

Uninstall the MMJB iPod Plugin, MMJB and iPod Manager (in that order). The iPod Manager is not needed and can cause connection problems.

Fire up the Updater (Start>Programs>iPod>Updater) and select a Restore. This will wipe all the garbage the MMJB has put on your iPod and get things nice and clean for ephpod to start off.

Then fire up ephpod. Try and copy some songs over. But remember, w/USB1.1 you're going to get some very slow speeds.

I will try what you suggested.

My usb 2 / firewire card should be here in a couple of days. I will do it then.
