Noob: Is the Dell Deal Good?

Alright this is my first post on these forums so go easy on me. I've been wanting to get an Ipod for over a year!!! and now with the new ones out I'm wanting to buy :D So I planned on buying one next week after I'm done with my finals and had some time to collect what few thoughts I have figure out the where when and how and what of buying one. Then freaking dell had to come out with this deal and through a monkey into my wrench..or whatever...I digress...

I'm sure you all saw the deal that Dell is putting on if not here's the link on ipodding

Dell Ipod Deal (http://www.ipoding.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=1199&mode=thread&order=0)

My questions are as follows: Is this a good deal? It seems good but I don't like to be rushed into buying things but this deal ends tonight so I need to know asap.

Second, Is Dell a good place to buy it from. I mean who cares if the deal is good if I'm buying it from the online retail version of a 7 eleven. Can I return it if it's not working right and all that?

Thirdly can I still get a warrenty on it from compusa or bestbuy?

PLEASE PLEASE I need this help. I want and ipod but this deal caught me off guard so please everyone with your years of ipod knowledge help guide a young ipod padawan.

P.S. I apologize if this message is at all weird, I am on my 8th hour of cramming for finals and I passed my wits end at hour 6.

I had the same dilemma, but decided that the Best Buy warranty wasn't worth $160 to me which is what the price difference would have been on a 30 GB ipod purchased at Best Buy with the warranty compared to the price Dell gave me with shipping and no sales tax.

I'm not worried about purchasing it from Dell at all though I have heard that sometimes they take a while to ship when they run ridiculous sales like this because so many people order them. I have a big roadtrip next week that I would really like to have it for, but once again it's not worth $100 plus to get it earlier. You need to decide whether the extra price is worth getting it quicker and also getting the warranty.

I just ordered one. You wont find a better price for a long time to come I suspect. I threw in the cheapest thing I could find ($8 cd-r's to get the additional discount) and the total price was $330. :D

too bad this deal doesn't apply to Dell.ca
BTW, a funny thing in dell.ca is when I search for ipod, it returns me a result with Creative's Zen ;)

I just ordered a 30 GB. I know that the wholesale price of the unit is greater than or equal to $475.00 (don't ask how, just believe me) so getting it for $404.10 shipped, no taxes, is a steal. Now I just have to spend about another $100 to buy a firewire card, iSkin, and set of headphones :p :D #### Apple for making me spend the money!

I ordered my iPod from Dell through a similar deal a couple weeks ago. I received my iPod last week. I love it.

I haven't bought my CompUSA TAP yet, but they sold me a TAP for my last iPod which was purchased through the Apple store.

I don't see any reason to pay more and buy it from any other source, except that Dell is very backlogged on the iPod and you may have to wait weeks/months for it to arrive.

Thank you for the tip on the Dell iPod order! I just saved $90. I had placed an order elsewhere and was given different answers when my iPod was going to be delivered each time I called to get an update on my order--so I cancelled with them. The Dell customer service was much better and the money saved is sweet. :)
