UK outlaws iPod FM device

Use of Griffin Technology's iTrip device has been prohibited by the UK authorities, reports AM Micro.

AM Micro distributes Griffin's products in the UK. It employed a specialist legal team to try to clarify the legal position for iTrip.

iTrip is an FM transmitter for Apple's iPod. It transmits music from the MP3 player on the FM wavelength, which can then be picked up by a radio.

A device which broadcasts on public FM frequency without the owner having a broadcast license has always been illegal in the UK. I'm not sure why it's news...

It's not a question of it being news. I posted the article since I see alot of people in the UK asking questions about the iTrip and seeing has how it is illegal... was wondering how they get away with it ?

Because the Radiocommunications Agency (http://www.radio.gov.uk/rahome.htm) probably has its hands full doing other things!

BORING...It's been illegal for ages but in practical terms is not at all... This is not worthy of ipodlounges news section... IN FACT..it is not illegal to buy or own an iTrip... and it might as well be legal to use it...nothing is gonna happen to u if u do use it... Admins! Why is this in main news section?..(I know..we can all post news but please)

VERY VERY VERY boring....this has all been discussed before, when the old itrip came out.
Go to www.altatechnology.co.uk, they sorted out the legal business.

if you get caught be prepared to be someones Beeeatch..

by the way.. I am sure the law isn't meant specifically for the Itrip.... They are meant for all fm transmitters and I am sure much mroe powerfuls at that... so chill and buy a cassette adapter if you want to play it safe and legal..

Yes, but these people come from a land where you have to have license for your TV, which is pretty weird if you ask me. ;)

Which allows us to have a couple of channels free from the irritation of ad breaks every ten minutes.

Oh and and if you are registered blind you get a ?10 discount - go figure........:(
