OK to leave iPod in the dock?

Hi.

I just did a search on the topic, but couldn't find anything, so sorry if this has been covered before...

Anyway, I usually use my 30GB iPod at home, hooked up to my home stereo, and only ocasionally use it at work or somewhere else. So most of the time, my iPod sits in its dock, connected to the power outlet with the iPod power adapter. My question is, is this ok, or will leaving the iPod in the dock, permanently connected to the power outlet drain the battery in any way? I'm not concerned about the permanent battery status display on the ipod, but just want to go sure that I'm not damaging the battery or anything...

Any insight would be highly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Jazzman :)

This FAQ (http://www.ipodlounge.com/faqs_more.php?id=103_0_10_0_C) may help you.
It will do no harm to leave it connected to the AC - you can't overcharge the ipod battery.
I leave mine connected all the time to ensure a full charge when I go out - nothing worse than running out of power when you're out and about.

I do the same as MadPict and the only concern I have is the battery full/charging image burning into the screen.

Stefan,
I have not noticed any burn-in. I think LCD's are not as prone to this as CRT or similar displays. The fact you have 3 "guns" firing electrons at the screen on a CRT if those electrons are falling onto the same point it will burn-in.
I have never seen burn-in on my mobile phone display and it is on 24/7. LCD screens do fail but like any piece of electronics they can last for years.
(The Nokia 5110 phone had a bad press for a while due to displays failing, but the two I have owned have been fine. Well, except for the one that got driven over!)

Okay, thanks all for your replies, highly appreciated. Now I'm a little less worried about my little iPod dying an early death due to dock-abuse ;-)

Quit worrying so much and enjoy your iPod man! ;)

Don't worry, I do the same thing and so far I don't see anything wrong with it.

This is sort of on the same topic, so I hope you dont mind me adding this.

Do people use their pod to play music through the PC when its docked? I have noticed that if I do this for long periods, Ie a couple of hours, it really seems to heat up. More so than just charging the pod in the cradle.

Should I be concerned about this?

If it gets hot I guess it's because the image of the iPod is mounted on your desktop/PC/whatever. Unmount it... but wait... can you still play the music with it?

Dunno :p Just wanted to help!

If you have a gen3 iPod you can umount it, leave it in the dock and play through the line out (connected to your PC.

Don't do this myself, but you could. With the 1st and 2nd gen iPods, you could do the same, out from the headphones to your PC soundcard...
