Hold button iffy!
Ok so tonight I had my Ipod out with me and went to check the time. I turned off the hold button and pressed the buttons adn it didn't turn on. I thought it might be dead, but this wasn't the case as I later found out, and it had been fully charged that morning. The deal is that the hold button was still "on." I have to push it pretty hard to the off position for the Pod to register the on/off switch. Anyone else experiencing this? Should I get it serviced or replaced at BestBuy?

hmmm, this is weird... Yeah, I think you SHOULD get this checked out if it continues to occur...

Ugh. I've already returned my 30GB once on July 6 because I got that annoying Exclamation Folder icon and couldn't reset or do anything. It was working so well until yesterday. Anyone else having hold button problems? I wouldn't mind if it was loose, but it's not, and having to flick it over right a little harder is annoying. I'll probably trudge back to BestBuy today and replace it again ::sigh::

No one seems to be replying :(

No one seems to be having this issue, that's probably why. Have you applied the 2.0.1 firmware? I believe that resolved some hold button issues.

Adam, I sure did. The day I got my Ipod I updated the firmware. Says 2.0.1. The problem is with the actual physical button where turning it on and off doesn't always do it with one flip :L

Yeah I'm having this problem to, and it is definately a physical problem with the button. I switch off the hold, and it stays on, then I apply more pressure towards the off position and it comes off hold. I'm taking it back tomorrow, I've only had it a month and I don't want it to get worse.

Bobky just an update for you...I did a search off of Apple's site to find the nearest Apple stores. I went to one about 15 mins from here yesterday and even after talking to someone on the phone (where they said they couldn't help me unless I bought it at an Apple store, cuz I bought it at Best Buy) I went in with the intention of shipping it out from there so it would get on its way quicker. The guy tells me they'll replace it with a brand new one (I just brought the actual Ipod, no accessories etc) that day if they had it in the store. They didn't so he placed an order and I get to keep mine for the week until the new one comes. He also had noticed that my IPod was seperated a little bit from the casing. Like the faceplate from the metal backingI never noticed it till now. NOW I'm having a problem today with it just locked up when I turned my car off when I got to work. It's frozen and with the hold button being a problem I can't reset easily. We'll see if I can fix this now ;L

Thanks PetiePal, I don't think I'll go to an apple store, they are a bit far away, me being across the pond and all. :)
But I am going to return it where I bought it to see what they will do, fingers crossed I will get a replacement as well. At least I know of some one with the same problem and is getting a replacement.
cheers

like the subject says, the lock icon stays on regardless of what position the hold button is in. the unit was working fine one moment, and then this happened... and I have only had it for about 2 1/2 months!!!
Suggestions?
# 10 Re: Hold button iffy!
mines done it since i bought it. took it back to the shop and they told me nothing was wrong, and scratched my screen for free, so rang apple and they took three weeks to send a collector. not the best of service. anyway, things happened so i couldnt send it back at that time, but now its gotta go! - its a really annoying problem.

Dave,
Did apple repair the switch on warranty? I looked at their online service thingy and "broken hold switch" was one of the items that wasn't covered by warranty. The quote I got to repair it was over $400!!!

whoa! theres no way they're going to charge me that!
I haven't phoned up apple yet, but it was broken when i got it. the sheer frustration of trying to get it fixed last time has made me lazy in getting it fixed now. Ill give them a call tonight/monday and see what they say.
