my new 15gb ipod with blue backlight have this weird screen problem, the back ground when lighted u could see uneven contrast verticle strips, like some darker some lighter, and the left edge of the screen (also when lighted) shows a slight shadow.

do any of u have this weird screen thing, dont actually bother me much but i think it's a defective, i bought it online from ebay, have a warranty but dont really know how to use it and the apple store is like 20 miles away.

go to the apple store, and tell them the whole story, except the part about buying it off of ebay.

Look at the pics from the blue backlight thread a few pages back in this forum. You description sounds normal.

what you just described is completely normal... I think the banding occurs because there are more than ONE backlight for the iPod screen, the backlight is composed of a series of three lights, the spacing between them in turn causes the slight variation of screen contrast...

destined_wind, what u said makes some sense to me, especially the series of 3 lights, because on the left edge where i say there are shadows, it's looks like 3 shadows caused by 3 different lights, so i guess i dont have to worry about it then, thanks alot guys.

I also experience this. I noticed that there is another reason for it. Because the screen is broken down into little squares or blocks, you could say that it has vertical rows. The more squares lit in a particular row, the darker that entire row becomes. I noticed this when I was tinkering around with it and used the backlight with the game. As I destroyed entire vertical rows of the blocks, the screen lightened in that whole vertical row.
