Noob Question,Topic:Firmwire
Firmwire, what the hell is it, and what is its purpose?
I know this is a stupid question, but thats what these fourms are for, right?

Firmware is essentially the software on the iPod that makes it work. Consider it the Operating System of the iPod. Like Windows is the Operating system on a PC or Linux, or Mac OSX is the Operating system on a Mac.
So, that's what it is. Pretty simple. Make sense?

Firmware: (from Webopedia)
Software (programs or data) that has been written onto read-only memory (ROM). Firmware is a combination of software and hardware. ROMs, PROMs and EPROMs that have data or programs recorded on them are firmware.
Periodically Apple releases Firmware updates for their hardware. These are not OS updates. They are ROM updates. After they are downloaded they must be flashed into the ROM chip. Apple includes a programmers button on their machines for this purpose. BIOS would be the PC equivalent.
