can I use an ipod while mowing lawns?

Im getting a 30gb ipod shipped to me as of today. I have a job mowing lawns (on those big Ferris riding lawn mowers). Riding isn't that bumpy for the most part, but it does get kinda bad sometimes.

Im wondering if the ipod could be damaged if I use it while mowing. I mow 2-3 times a week, 6-8 hours a day

Could you even hear music while mowing. I've tried hearing music while mowing, it just doesn't seem possible.

I have a pair of sennheiser HD280s that Ive been using with my old mp3 player. They cancel out the noise fairly well, so I can hear the music just fine

what would I be able to do if I did damage the ipod from the bouncing?

i'd suggest buying a replacement plan beforehand...

...however, its durable within reason, mowing lawn shouldn't be a problem, I wouldn't think. I don't use it when I mow my lawn, it would be too loud, even with my 'phones.

I mow w/mine. 'Course I don't have a ride-on mower. So, I'm walking.

I've got the fairly crappy sony ex-70s, but they have OK isolation, so I can hear the tunes fine.

Wouldn't want to be doing it all day though. I'd worry about some hearing problems. But you sound like a young buck, so you're not going to take some 38 year-old geezers advice about loud music anyway. :D

To prevent jostling, I'm try to put the iPod somewhere where it won't get too shaken up. Maybe in a shirt pocket.

If you can swing it, use the Bose Quiet Comfort 2 headset with noise-cancelling. It works fairly well in cutting out some (though not all) of the mower noise. If you don't crank up the tunes too high, you can even still hear someone yelling for you - like say yourwife telling you that you missed a spot!

I do this all the time, actually. I have an electric mower because I hate exhaust fumes, Houston has enough ozone problems, and most of all, it's not as loud so I can hear the MUSIC!

I do this all the time. I have the Sony ex-70s (which I like by the way) and they work great. Makes mowing more enjoyable (if that's possible).

I enjoy it, mainly because Im getting $9/hour and my boss is cool

Im 17, leaving for college in a month, and live in a small town. There aren't any better jobs for someone in my situation

Anyway, Im buying my ipod from a guy who had gotten in on the 30gb ipod for $399 from dell a week ago, so there isn't a replacement plan that I can get.

If my ipod dies, am I #### outta luck or can I get it fixed by apple?

I use mine all the time while mowing the lawn. I keep it clipped behind me, under my shirt, to keep the dust out. I use either the stock Apple ear buds, or a pair of cheap (under $20) Sony ear buds.

I have a pair of the Bose Quiet Comfort headphones, but I'm reluctant to use them while cutting. There are a few dry spots in my yard where the dust is pretty bad. When I go inside my arms are completely covered from it. The Bose headphones have little holes on the sides (for listening to the surrounding noise) and I'm worried the dust would get in.

I own a pair of Ety-6's which I love and provide great isolation while riding along on my mower. Worth every penny of the 100ish bucks I spent for them. Without some sort of isolating head/ear-phone you won't be able to hear the music.

As far as jostling/breaking the iPod while moving, I'd say its no less dangerous than using it while riding a subway. A good case with a sturdy belt clip should be just fine.

I use my ipod while cutting the grass all the time. The only thing I face is how senative (sp) the buttons are when I walk with it in my pocket. The hold switch can eliminate that problem.

For the best isolation--Etymotic er-6, or better yet, the er-4p. They are canal phones, which means you shove them all the way into your ear, and I mean all the way (some people can't get used to this)--the sound isolation is something like 25 db. The sound quality from these are unbelievable (especially the 4p).

30dbs, really? Have used them in a DJ booth and they sound pretty good, but I would still place the ety's above them in terms of sound (to my ears)--I haven't really heard many better sounding headphones.

I mow lawns while listening to my iPod. I can barely hear the mower with teh Sennheiser 212 Pro's. Just get some big "closed" headphones.
