iPod featured in music video!

I'm sorry if this has already been discussed but I just saw the new Marry J. Blige video for "Love @ first sight" and it has an extreme close up of the Apple iPod at the beginning of the video.

I thought that was cool. Anyone know of any other music videos that feature the iPod?

The only reason it is in these craptacular videos is for the "bling". Sucks.

ill record the video, and play it over and over to see the iPod for 2 seconds, possibly 3.

Sounds like paid product placement to me.

Favourite drinking game is to have a shot every time a product placement appears in a James Bond film...

Next time you're watching a film or clip, and see someone walk into Starbucks, or light up a ciggy, or hold a can of coke with the label out, etc, have a drink on me... :)

More than likely the iPods are featured in music videos because Apple paid to have them there and the artists were happy to have them there because they're so gorgeous.

Example of how some products make it into your favorite videos and TV shows. This is the story of a guy who started the practice of celebrity product placement for Motorola. It appeared in the October 2002 issue of Business 2.0

HOW I GOT HERE
David Pinsky, Santa to the Stars
Hollywood needs cell phones. Motorola wants exposure. A career is born.
By Noah Robischon, October 2002 Issue

In a penthouse office overlooking Sunset Boulevard, David Pinsky is living his Hollywood dream. But he's not a big-time producer. Pinsky has worked in marketing at Motorola for 13 years; his current job is to give pagers and cell phones to rockers and starlets. As a result of his efforts, Motorola (MOT) has received unpaid product placements in films (Ocean's Eleven), TV shows (Friends), and music videos (Shaggy's "It Wasn't Me"). Rapper Jay-Z even recorded a top-40 hit that included a shout out to his Motorola two-way. Pinsky's only complaint: His social life is ruled by film festivals, awards ceremonies, and premiere parties. Feeling sorry for him yet?

How did you get Motorola to send you to Hollywood?

One night in Illinois, as it started snowing in April, I sat down at my laptop and said, "I'm going to create this job." I've always had a passion for entertainment, but I really enjoyed working at Motorola. I was trying to find a way to marry the two. I put together the proposal and walked into my boss's office. He had only been my boss for two months at the most. I introduced myself again and handed him two letters: One was a proposal and one was a resignation.

Who's on your two-way?

Tara Reid. Alyssa Milano. Fred Durst. I got a page yesterday from Kid Rock. I sent Adam Sandler a page when Mr. Deeds came out, and he paged me back in five minutes.

When you give away product, isn't there an unspoken contract?

Take shows like Will & Grace, Friends, Sex and the City -- we work with a lot of the cast regardless of the placement. XXX is a perfect example: There are two close-ups in the film where you can clearly see "Motorola Accompli." We've worked with [producer] Neal Moritz and [director] Rob Cohen for years. When they formed their own studio, we said, "We'll keep you in the latest and greatest products. All we ask is that you consider us if you have opportunities."

Last year you gave V70 phones to 25 Oscar nominees. How do you decide who deserves a freebie?

We have people who call up and say, "I wasn't nominated, but I really love the phone ..." Hilary Swank recently called me; she was at lunch with Robert Altman, and he had the phone. She said, "I wasn't nominated this year ..." I said, "I know." But I've worked with Hilary for years, so we sent her a V70 two months after the Oscars. Then her husband [Chad Lowe] called and said, "OK, I know I didn't get nominated ..." It's cute. It's become a game in this town.
