Firewired Cables only charge need help

I have a 20Gb iPod and I tried severan firewire cables (tripp lite, 3 Generic) they only charge the iPod but I can?t transfer files, the only Cable that work is the one that came with the iPod. Any guest what happend? I need 2 cables for diferent computers.

Weird, I've used several different cables with my iPod.
