Help: Cant Get New 30GB iPod Working
My new 30GB model arrived today. Charged it for several hours and then connected it to Win XP PC. I didn't load the Apple software disk because I have Ephpod installed on the PC. As soon as I connect the iPod I get the "Do Not Disconnect" message and a flashing symbol. I didn't bring up any software; all I did was plug it into my firewire port and the message appears continuously. Please help: what am I doing wrong? Thanks

have you tried starting ephpod? did it recognize the ipod?
# 2 Re: Help: Cant Get New 30GB iPod Working
I had read a recommendation here to not bother with the Apple disc if I was going to use Ephpod. After charging, I connected the iPod, brought up Ephpod but Ephpod wouldn't recognize it. Windows Explorer recognized it as a removeable disk but said it needed to be formatted.
So, what to do? I concluded I should try installing the Apple disk. I did that and as part of the installation process it appeared to do some form of initialization of the iPod. After the installation was complete I disabled the MusicMatch software, brought up Ephpod and voila! it immediately recognized the iPod and I am downloading 18+GB of files to the iPod as I type this.
Presumably then, the recommendation to just skip the Apple disk is not a good one. Thanks for your interest.

yeah the apple software formats the ipod for windows, its a good thing to have anyways as it is the thing you will need to use to update your firmware when new one's come out.
glad its working. enjoy your ipod

Actually it was, because your firmware is already out of date Here's the link to ythe new one http://a1408.g.akamai.net/7/1408/13...frcdw/setup.exe.
You might as well d/l this and install it.

um.. correct me if i'm wrong, but the 1.3 update is only for ipods w/o a dock connector, as he said he has a 30 GB 3G which has a dock connector so he needs the 2.0.1 firmware

Well da! Brain freeze. Do the new disks come with 2.0.1? He may still need to update.

my 15 GB came with the 2.0.1 and i got it 2 weeks ago so i'm guessing if he got it recently it has 2.0.1 on it

Well, there's still something wrong. I downloaded my music but the "Do Not Disconnect" message never went away. Left it on all night and it was still there this morning.
I disconnected the iPod anyway and when I checked it, all the music had been downloaded and was there. But as soon as I reconnect it to my PC the "Do Not Disconnect" message comes up on the iPod and just stays there. Any suggestions from anyone?
Oh, and it did come with 2.01 already installed on it. Thanks for any help.

you have to unmount the ipod with the apple ipod manager, you should see the icon in the system tray, right click on it an select unmount, the message should dissapear and you can disconect then, you should shut down ephpod and then unmount it

The Do Not Disconnect will always display on the iPod when it's connected to your iPod. It's there to warn you not to just yank it out of the dock which, if data was being written to it at that moment, could corrupt the iPod database or HDD.
So, unmount w/the systray icon (if you have the Apple software installed) or click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the systray (as loki102 said) ;)

Mine came with 2.0 and i got it last week (although it was sitting in my parents closet for about a week before that). I too tiredto use EphPod without installing any of the software but couldn't get it work. Then I ran the CD and did everything but install MMJB and it has worked fine.
Just make sure you actually install the update because I thought I had for a few days but it turns out I didn't really (although I got all excited when I actually did install it and the clicking between songs and stereo switching was gone).
