ipod Shutting Down.....
My new 3G 15 gb ipod that I have had for about a month now has shut off by itself 4 or 5 times now for no apparent reason when I have been listening to it. The hold button has been on, and there has been plenty of battery power left. I was walking around, but not doing anything out of the ordinary. Are they just quirky this way, or should I be concerned?
On another topic, my unit displays a 300 mb difference between what shows on Musicmatch, and what shows on the ipod as far as how much capacity there is. Also, it never displayed the full 15 gigs, but only 14.2. That seems to be a lot less than advertised. I know that usually with storage devices, there is a little less, but 800 mb's?

# 1 Re: ipod Shutting Down.....
For the first part of your post, I can't guarantee it, but it sounds like there is something in a few of your mp3s it doesn't like. When the ipod gets to these, it may shut down, or skip to the next track. It could also be a bug with sleep mode, make sure sleep isn't enabled, and try to replay the track you were listening to when it shut off. Does it do it again in the same spot?
For the second part:
All hard drives are actually less than advertised because the HD manufacturers use 1000mb=1gb, when all Operating systems use 1024mb=1gb, and that is in raw disk space. Some of that space is lost when formatted due to cluster size, and filesystem information. Also, about 40-60mb is used on a hidden partition used for the apple firmware.
edit: they also round up to the nearest gb, have you seen any boxes labeled '14.6 gb' before?
