Upgrading Ipod

Hey,

I have a first gen. 10gb Ipod and I want to upgrade. Personally, I don't like the new model because of the way it looks, and the battery life. I want to upgrade to the 2nd gen. model through ebay. I just want some advice before I upgrade. It looks like Apple isn't pumping out much upgrades for the older models and am trying to push their 3rd generation model as much as possible. Will Apple discontinue support for older models? What do u guys recommend I do?

I dont think there will be more firmware for older versions
Get the new iPod. You will be up to date and if you dont listen to your iPod for 10Hour periods at a time you dont have to worry about battery life. And trust me eBay is not a a good place to buy expensive stuff. I have heard that people dont even have a battery or hard drive in some ones they buy on ebay. Stick with the current stuff, if you keep your iPod in your pocket you wont even have to look at the iPod anyways(since you think its ugly)

You mean you have a 10 GB MacPod with the moving scrollwheel?

Keep it! It's by far the best iPod they ever made - all the all-weather, joggable characteristics which made the 5 GB model great, and with 10 GB of room on it.

Unless you need 20 GB, 'upgrading' to the thinner, hotter, more freeze prone Gen 2 GB pod gives you nothing except the touchwheel, which has drawbacks as well as advantages.

The Gen 3 also has advantages and disadvantages, which have been described elsewhere.
