Question for people with thinking skills

I just got my nice new 15gig iPod and have started ripping my entire music collection. I have been ripping things in 192 and was just curious as to how many songs i could fit on the iPod in mp3 format at the 192 bitrate... anyone know? Apples estimates for the 15gig are 3500 songs, but thats in 128 AAC format. Thanks in advance.

I dont know, most of my collection is 192 some are higher some are lower some are VBR, and i have 1600 songs on it now, with 7.4 gigs free so at least another 1600.

*lol* By the way, you should ALWAYS use VBR. There is absolutely no reason not to.

Why are you reaching for the Reply button?! I just told you there's absolutely no reason!!

Untrue. I find that I like AAC encoding better than MP3 encoding, and there's no VBR for AAC--and I don't feel like I'm missing something without it.

actually there is a VBR option for aac...however it is not on quicktime. nero is able to encode to vbr aac

According to my calculations at 192kbps you can fit rougly 175 songs per gigabyte, therefore you can fit 2625 songs on 15GB iPod, this is a rough estimate so my guess is around 2500-2600.

Don't forget that you do not have all 15gb available.

lilmoonee, yeah, but I don't like the Nero encoder, and I'm not the only one who thinks QT is better:

I always encode with QT, not iTunes, at "best" quality.

i've always found that apple underestimates the number of songs the ipods will hold, at least, this is true in my personal experience.
