OK to leave backlight on when plugged in?
Just got a 30GB iPod yesterday; Apple should change the name from "iPod" to "The Coolest Thing Ever."
Anyway ... wondering if there's a consensus on whether or not it's OK to leave the backlight on continuously when docked and plugged in. I've got it plugged into the wall socket, not my iMac, and a.) It's hard to read the screen here at my dim work area when the backlight isn't on; b.) Face it: This thing looks really cool when illuminated.
But am I risking burning the light out super fast? (Which leads me to ask: What if the light does burn out? Is it an ordeal to get it replaced?)
Thanks in advance.

Not to hijack your post, but in a similar vein...
I noticed that when the pod is done charging, it just sits there with the battery icon on the screen. Indefinitely. I'm sure glad that monitor "burn-in" is no longer the issue it once was. A cheesy iPod screensaver would be kinda neat all the same.

The light doesn't burn out. It's an LED. They don't burn out.
But still, I wouldn't leave it on. It just causes more power to be consumed and potentially additional heat w/the iPod doesn't need.
I never use the backlight (except in the rare instance when it's dark where I am). I find it strange that so many folks use it.

Yup, neither do I. Strange people like bright shiny things, I suppose.

Well this one time, I was lost in a cave and I only had my iPod with me...I'm alive today because of the iPod backlight. Of course, if I had one of those crappy grey backlights, I would have left it off and perished.

I leave my backlight on whenever it's on my desk (and I'm listening to it). Besides consuming battery (which if it's plugged in is not an issue) it doesn't harm the iPod. If it did, Apple would not have included it on the iPod! They are LED bulbs, they last indefinately.
PS - My 500th post! Yay!
