any help is appreciated...

i recently had to format my hard drive due to bad sectors. what should i do to get my ipod back into action? should i re-install the cd it came with (musicmatch)? if i install ephpod (the program i was using before) and connect my ipod to the computer, will ephpod recognize all the music that is on it? will i have to format my ipod and lose all my songs? i'm so lost. tia.
