I am not having this problem. All of my composers show up as they should when I browse. In fact I haven't had any of the problems that many have talked of. Have been using the ipod for four days now. Maybe problems will develop, but I hope not. Have you tried reseting your pod to see if that resolves the problem. My philosophy, if it doesn't work restart at least once and see what happens.

Good luck,

What are you using to upload tunes to the iPod? Is this a MiPod or a WiPod? That can make a difference in troubleshooting the problem.

Do you use "Composers" to differentiate from the performers ("artist" tag)?

I haven't used that feature at all and I am not sure how to do it. There is no Composer field on iTunes to put the name of the composer into. Am I missing something? (probably...)

It works for me. I'm using MC9 with a 20GB WinPod. I tag all my classical stuff with a composer and it shows up just fine on the iPod

Ruethewhirl,

It's not a firmware problem. Your 20GB shipped with all the firmware you need to use composers.

The problem lies in the software you're using to put music on your iPod, not on the iPod itself.

I don't know for sure, but I don't think that MMJB supports the composer tag. If you're using MMJB, this may be the first problem.

You must sit down at your computer and "tag" your songs with the composer information that you want to appear on the iPod. Do this in the same way that you populate your songs with info on "Artist" and "Album" and so on.

Once your music is "composerized", you must then use MMJB or XPlay or some other "conduit" to upload the music to your iPod. If your "conduit" doesn't upload the composer info to the iPod, you won't be able to see it on the iPod. Logical, aye?

I use MC9, and it has a composer field that I can populate. The contents of this composer field appear on my iPod when I sync up, because MC9 can send this info to the iPod.

I used to use XPlay. After adding composer data to my music via ID3-Tagit or Windows Media Player 9, XPlay was able to successfully send this information to the iPod as well.

So, I guess, if you use MMJB (the supplied software), you should look around in MMJB's tagging area to see if you can "composerize" your music. Hope it works!

If it doesn't, MC9 and XPlay have free trial downloads. :)

PS: I dunno if Ephpod can use composers, thus my lack of inclusiveness. :D

Hey c.c.r.

Im am editing my ID3 Tags I use ID3 Tag Edit. I did edit the composer field. Then I open up ephpod and upload the songs with a composers field, the names show up on the EphPod list under Composer Field but when I upload to iPod and check my iPods Composers PAth I see nothing but "All>" button. So is this a EphPod problem? can someone check for me I don't have any other software to use with the iPod thanks

Yup, sounds like an Ephpod problem.

I would say to make sure that you're using the v2 composer tag and not the v1 composer tag, but v1 doesn't have composer tags.

Try this: Go into Ephpod's config page (dunno where it is, but you should be able to find it) and make sure that Ephpod is reading from v2 tags and not v1 tags. It could be reading v1 only, and again, composer doesn't exist on v1.

Then again, you may end up with more troubles if all of your currently "good" tags are v1 and you tell Ephpod to go use v2 instead.

Since you're an ID3-Tagit user, though, you'll easily be able to convert all your v1 tags to v2 tags with ID3-Tagit.

Barring that, try XPlay or MC9... they both work just fine.

Oh!. c.c.r.! I asked a question about idv.2 vs. id3v.1 in MMJB and I think you misunderstood me. You're probably right that it can display both when they have previously tagged, but do you know which one it uses when I'm updating the tags for a file that had none IN MMJB? I want to know, because I'd like to use a batch editor to "synch" them, and I wnat to know whether I should have it copy from v.2 or v.1. Thanks!:)

Ahh, nope.

If you import a "tagless" mp3 into MMJB and tag it, I have no idea if it writes v1 or v2. I don't use MMJB, ;)

Give it a shot tho... go get a copy of ID3-Tagit. It can tell you which version of tags your mp3 has (it'll even show you both versions).

Then, put your "tagless" mp3 into MMJB, tag it, and load it into ID3-Tagit to see which version MMJB put on it.
