Clock freezes (new 15GB iPod)
When I first clicked my way around the new iPod, the clock worked fine. I remember seeing it tick along nicely, and thought it would be a good idea to activate "Clock in Title". After a while though, I noticed that the clock in title wasn't accurate. It pretty much froze when I started the iPod up. Going manually to the "Clock" function, I could see it was frozen there too, not just in the Title. So I navigated to "Set date and time", and was surprised to see the time suggested automatically, was in fact correct - apparently the clock "itself" was still ticking, although the representation of the clock (in the title line as well as the clock menu) was frozen. Even if I entered the right information, when I got back to the Main menu the clock in the title was still frozen, as was the one in the Clock menu. The ony way I can get the time right is by turning off and then on again. But regardless, the clock still freezes (or at least the representation of it). Any thoughts at all? It's weird, because I remember seeing the clock working (ticking by second for second) on the first day, so something must have gone wrong.

P.S.
W-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l machine. Only thing I'd really like is the possibility to e-n-t-e-r information straight into the iPod. I mean, the sync to iCal works great, and sometimes you need to scribble down a phone number etc on-the-go, and that should be a piece of cake using the great value dial. Hope it's in a future update. Also, 4K limit on text files? Pity; I saw great uses for that.

I also had the same clock problem. I brought the pod back to the apple store where I bought it and I was told that the frozen clock is indicative of a bad hard drive. They then proceeded to exchange it.

Has anyone else seen this problem? I'm experiencing it, and I'm really hoping i dont have to exchange my ipod to get this fixed (thank god im still under warranty but i got this thing less than 2 weeks ago)

Hmmm, mine has never froze before, but I have noticed that its often off the real time, even if I fix it one once a day...

The iPod's clock has never worked properly folks. Just leave it not set and don't worry about. Never should have added the darn thing in the first place.
It's not worked since they introduced it in 1.2.
Silly idea trying to make it a PDA IMO.
Oh, and I know that it should work and it's a bug and Apple should fix it..blah, blah. If it's really important to you that it be fixed, submit feedback (http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html) to Apple, they'll get it fixed if enough users complain about it.

Not sure I'd agree that the clock doesn't ever work. My new 30G's clock seems to work fine. The probelm I'm having now is that the play button freezes quite often. When I hold down the play button to turn it off, it goes to pause instead and then that button becomes nonresponsive. It's not until I hit the back and forward button that the play button comes back "alive" and I can turn it off. It's annoying but not bad enought to prompt the drive back to Best Buy (where by the way I got a 4 year warranty even though I bought the pod at the Apple store) for an exchange.

I am having the same problem. I just got the ipod last week, should I return if it indicates a bad HD? I do not want to have any problems in the future, even if the clock thing is only minor now.

I'm using Windows, and my 30G clock was working perfectly...until I updated the software to 2.01. Now I've got the same "frozen" clock others have -- it's working perfectly in the settings, but that's not reflected on the title bar.
Ah well...

As I said the darn thing has never worked. ;)
Seriously, it's been hit or miss w/users ever since they introduced the silly feature in firmware 1.2.
Regarding the freeze issue (the menu/button lag), check out this post (http://ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4309) and be sure to send your feedback to Apple as indicated. They'll get it fixed.
It's not a defect w/the hardware, it's firmware related.

My clock works perfectly.
# 10 Re: Clock freezes (new 15GB iPod)
i haven't had my 15gb'er long enough to notice...but i really hope it's not a problem. as the alarm function is uselss without a working clock. i also wonder if the sleep fucntion would fail as well...
# 11 Re: Clock freezes (new 15GB iPod)
The freezing play button doesn't seem to be a delayed response as described by ashawley but an actual dead button that only comes back to life after hitting the menu and sometimes the fast forward button.
Another anomoly occured when I realized that even though I had deleted 6Gb of files which I was storing on the ipod, the memory was being reported as if it was still there. Opening the ipod in firewire disk mode showed no files so there was nothing to do but do a full restore. Now the memory amount is correct. We'll see if the restore fixed the freezing play button.

well i noticed problems when i use the clock in mine, like, if i start using the clock, songs start skipping in the end, and well, i restore it, and its fixed, then i start using the clock again, and it starts happening again, so i just dont use the clock anymore.
