What should I do?
I cannot decide how to get my ipod, so I will need your help.
Here's my situation:
I want a g3 10gb ipod.
I could get it at Amazon.com for $299, wait about 10 days for it, and I would get a $50 certificate for free. Total: about $300, but $250 after I get the certificate.
I could get it at my local Best Buy(or order online and do store pickup), where it would be $299(plus tax), and I could get a 4-Year Protection Plan for $39.99. Total: about $365.
I can't decide what's more important: the money, or the PSP.
Also, I can't decide which FireWire card to get. The only one that Best Buy has in stock is an open box item by a brand I haven't heard of for $34.99. If not this one, would you order an Adaptec or Belkin?
Just to let you know, I have Windows 98se desktop PC.
Money is really tight, but I would feel much safer with the PSP. Plus, if my iPod dies 3 or 4 years down the road, I get a BRAND NEW one. Also, I've been waiting and saving for months, so I don't want to wait any longer. But I would be saving almost $100 if I go with amazon.
What Should I Do?
Thanks!

I would strongly recommend going with the PSP. I've gone through two ipods already--started with a 20gig gen2, replaced that once, and now have a 30gig gen3 after my second 20gigger blew up. Best Buy replaced the first one the same day--the second time I had to wait a couple of days for a 30gigger to come in. These are fairly delicate machines, and I think the extra money is worth it in this instance.
The PSP averages to ten dollars a year. You're guaranteed an ipod for 4 years (and if yours breaks, and a new gen is out, you'll get the latest ipod of comparable value). It's been a godsend to me, and usually I don't go for extended warantees.

I on the other hand would be wary about the over-the-counter warranties. Myself and many others you will probably read here have had problems having their warranties accepted. CompUSA and Best Buy will try any excuse to get out of servicing your iPod. Also these companies make huge amounts of money from these warranties, and when they don't honor them (which in many cases they don't) the big guys get away with your money. I am kind of anti-PSP/TAP; so I would be wary of purchasing one of these warranties.
P.S. The included Apple warranty is quite good, if anything goes wrong they send you out a new iPod in less than a week. The process is painless (for me anyway).

This I think is a function of your local store--I can tell you my local Best Buy has been nothing short of spectacular with returns (both with my ipod, and a car stereo I had installed there, and that was without the PSP). So, check the reputation of your local store, if it's good, I'd get the PSP--I think it's a great deal at $40.00. One thing to keep in mind, if your ipod is broken, they'll give you a brand new one--not a refurb, like Apple has been known to do--Best Buy does not repair them, they only replace them.
