funny thing?
hey guys,
well i was just playing around with my ipod and i thought: it would be nice to have one of those 30gb ones..with the dock and line out..i dont have a stereo system - only good speakers..so it would be great!
i have a 20gb right now..(3months old)...
i have read most if not all opinions on the new design, but could some of you guys sincerely tell me what you think is annoying? (i figure its an ipod, so its gotta feel great ;))..anywyas, just anything thats a big downside from the original ipods..stuff like the buttons? are they annoying?
anyways, right now i have that feeeling taht would make you jump off a building to get a new ipod :) lol..maybe i could try to sell it on ebay..or since i'll be making a bit of money this summer i could earn a bit? i have an evergrowing collection - so 30gb would be it..
anyways, if anyone can try to convince me :) or to make me go for a awise decision like waiting till the end of summer, then i'll be happy :)
thanks guys

My opinions will probably reflect a lot other people's:
CONS:
shorter battery life, even though I always get to charging it before it runs down completely. It's still annoying when you really need it and aren't near a power source or have your adapter. it also seems the new battery has less stand-by time.
the buttons are WAY too sensitive. Brush up against them, and you'll trigger one probably. that means you'll use the hold switch more often, which brings up another point...the hold switch is really rigid and hard to slide, unlike my previous original and 2nd gen. iPods.
the iPod's 2.x.x software seems flaky compared to past versions. the fit and finish is just higher with the older models, software-wise. 2.0.1 still seems slighty buggy, but still more than usable. it's the just the rare glitches...
the dock connector seems somewhat fragile compared to the firewire ports on the past iPods. i may be nit-picking, i'm sure the dock connectors will stand up to daily use. i don't really have any FireWire accessories for my iPod, so I don't really mind the change in connectors.
# 2 Re: funny thing?
is there a possibility of changing the battery? i saw a few things on ipodhacks about changin the battery..(just hoping :))
as for the buttons, that seems like a problem indeed..is everyone having this problem? i mean it would be a pain to have to use the hold button all the time..say you're walking, and listening to tunes from different artists, and you need to go back in the menus, if you have to un-hold and re-hold each time thats a pain..
thanks ZoidbergD :)
anyone has anything to add?
thanks

well, changing batteries... i'm think that in a few months, some company will supply replacement batteries, just like for the old iPods, for you to replace yourself in a 3G iPod. but, looking at the 3G iPod dissection photos on ipoding.com, it looks like the internal structure/organization of the new iPod's components is a little more complicated, so replacing a battery may be a little hard
as for a different, higher capacity battery to put into the iPod, that's unlikely. you could buy that Belkin battery pack that attaches to the Dock connector for 14 hours of continuous playtime
you'll get used to the buttons on the iPod, you'll be a little more careful when holding it...

just get it
# 5 Re: funny thing?
Naw, don't get it.
Right now, you can dream of all the things it can do for you.
If you get it, you'll gripe about all the things it can't.

That makes a lot of sense...

I don't think the buttons are too sensitive, however, I didn't have the luck of having a G1 or G2 'pod. Also, I use my 'pod mostly on my desk at work so it does not get accidentaly handled very much at all.
# 8 Re: funny thing?
The great advantage of the newPod is that it's smaller size and rounded corners make it much easier to fit in a shirt or suit pocket. If, however, you use yours in an aftermarket case, in a bag, in a jeans pocket or an informal jacket pocket, the oldPod is plenty small enough. The newPod looks great, but lacks the quirky styling of the oldPod, and the new button layout looks logical, but is actually less good to use than the old.
Then there's the issue of battery life, and all the minor glitches which haven't yet been sorted out on the newPod. I've given the new one a thorough going over, and personally don't feel any need to switch.
# 9 Re: funny thing?
I agree with Jacko--I do prefer the new one to the old one, but only by a slight margin, and mainly because of the dock. If you've got an old one, I personally wouldn't get a new one until your gen2 dies (like mine did). Like Jacko mentioned, there are some advantages to the gen2 over the gen3--mainly battery life, and the button layout...

yea, i think what i'll do is wait for the next version..hopefully they'll improve the battery life ( i love 10+ hrs), and maybe do something about the buttons..(maybe drop the price a bit too :) )
anyways, that gives me time to start putting money aside :)
thanks for the replies

i was browsing on ebay for 30gb ipods, and i saw one that had a starting bid of $1.00..is that a fake? i sent an email to the seller to know if he could possibly ship it to canada..i dunno if i should be excited or not..lol..i mean if it is a real thing then i would get it even if it had a few glitches..anyone?

# 12 Re: funny thing?
Starting bid is exactly that: a starting bid. The seller knows that people will bid well into the hundreds, so it's there to make it seem worthwhile.
But then again, I never purchase anything major from eBay. Just to be safe.
# 13 Re: funny thing?
its at ~20 right now..i have the highest..lol
isn't there a policy about the whole thing though? ohh well..its funny though

# 14 Re: funny thing?
eBay can be very safe if you do the following:
Check the seller's feedback *very* carefully...don't just look at the percentage, but check what every "Negative" comment specifically says.
Use a credit card!! Can't emphasize that enough. Almost all major credit cards limit you to $50 fraud liability at most.
Use PayPal...with PayPal, there are buyer protections and the seller has to actually *prove* that they sent you the product if you dispute it.
Finally, insist that the seller insure your package (at your cost) and use a service that provides tracking numbers.
And rest assured, paneb, that the bidding will make its way back up to what you'd expect the price to be. Savvy eBay bidders "snipe," or bid close to the end of the auction. The advantage of this is that people can't nibble away at your proxy bid. The disadvantage is that you may not get that last-minute bid in quickly enough to win.
# 15 Re: funny thing?
lo..i am reassured alreayd :) its up to more than 320..i was hoping for it to stay invisible to everyone else and stay at 50 :)
