U.S. warranty in Europe
TNT on behalf of apple FINALLY picked up my ipod. after 4 + weeks of asking apple to take it back ...
anyway... i couldn't put up with crappy volume any longer.
Unfortunately though, im having lots of probs getting my hands on ipod from america. And one thing is REALLY worrying me.
I rang apple europe and I told them that I was getting a present from my sister in the states and that she bought it over there and that she would be sending it to me.
I wanted to know if they would still cover me for the year. The girl on the phone was not sure, she was of the opinion that i would have to ask apple america, and that she doesn't think that the european warranty policy covers non european models. When i asked apple america they said that it was only covered in legitimate regions... i.e. my understanding not in europe. :(
Is this bull?? Can anyone relieve me please!

Not sure if this wil fit your situation but each iPod purchase is covered by a GLOBAL warranty. See below threads:

thanks alot. much appreciated. I had read those threads, the thing that worried me was that the apple staff on the phone were so unsure, i was interested as to whether or not i would hit a brick wall if i had a problem with an american unit.. anyone have any ideas??
Also what happens if i get an american unit, something goes wrong with it within the first month (in which case i think apple usually replace with a brand new one)... if im in europe... and i return to my local apple europe... will they replace my american one with a european one or will they source me another american ?

My guess (not based on experience mind you) is that Apple will send you a refurb before they give you a brand new one. And it will come from the nearest depot which I guess would come from the UK.
I'm trying to think like Apple here - for them there is no difference between the US and EU pods so they will not admit/think that one is preferable or superior to the other. They will not see any reason why they should give you a US unit as a replacement.
But more importantly - when you do get a replacement - how will you know where it's from? Is the volume cap your only indication then?

I feel sooo frustrated with this whole Euro volume capping thing!
It seems that every avenue explored trying to work around the vol. cap leads to a dead end and when researching trying to buy from the US there seems to be nothing but barriers in the way.
All we want is to buy a fully working iPod without any restrictions.

penbat I haven't actually bought one yet. I really really would like an iPod, but the Euro issue has stopped me. I just hope I can source a US spec 'pod. ( I have e-mailed Apple regarding the vol. capping issue).
