Does the ipod drain power while on off mode ?
I have not charged my ipod in a day and now it won't power on. Only wya to get it out of sleep mode is with the reset mode. So my quesiton is if the ipod is left over night does the battery get drained? This had happened to me 2x already. I did not plug the ipod to the sync cable and the next morning i found out my ipod has locked up.

normally it shouldn't...
was your iPod fully charged before you left it over night?

yup, it uses a small amount of power when shut off. usually happens if you don't use it for a couple days, your pod might have been pretty drained already, and run out of juice overnight.

Yes.
The iPod is never 'truly' turned off. It's just in 'sleep' mode; -that's why when ever you hit a button, it instaneously turns on.
I had a problem with my older iPod doing that, when it was off for over 3-4days the battery would be completely drained.
I believe the new iPod can stay a couple of weeks without draining the battery completely though (it's in the manual somewhere).

Why would you leave your iPod off for 2 weeks??!! Wouldn't it get...like...lonely or something?
# 7 Re: Does the ipod drain power while on off mode ?
My ipod started not waking up from sleep several times this weekend after working fine for a week. During the time that it's in a coma, I find that the battery drains as a very high rate as though it were being used but it's not.

i'll recharge the unit tonight. I can hear tiny sound coming form the ipod wht the hold button off but when i have hold on the sounds dissapears. you cna only hear it if you put it next to your ear. I think my ipod probably locked up instead of not having battery. I mean i hardly even used it much so the charge should stay. i'll do another charge tongiht. Do you guys charge via firewire port or via ac adapter ?

both work, but you have to make sure that you have a 6 pin firewire port..
that aside, if you charge via the firewire you have to ask the system to software-eject the pod without physically disconnecting the plug so that it goes into disconnected-charging mode. (i.e. the screen shows ok to disconnect or simply allows you to fool around with the menu)
if you charge it with the "do not disconnect" screen on it means your pod is still linked to the computer, and that would cause hard disk activity which might lead to wear-and-tear and a shortening of the lifespan of your pod.

well i have the ipod sitting in the cradle to the ac , can i connect the cradle to the firewire port and sync like that or it has to be directly to the ipod ?

you can just connect the cradle directly to the firewire port.. basically the plug on the cradle and the plug on the cable are identical, that's why the 10 giggers don't come with a cradle.
the cradle's main advantages are making the pod look nice and a line out.. which not everyone will need

Sometimes, at night, I wake up and I hear my iPod whispering to me. She says she's lonely.
My doctor says I shouldn't skip my medication. ;)

*LOL*! I do actually take my iPod to bed with me, and sometimes it really -is- whispering to me... like last night. I had drifted off while listening to an audio book of "The Stand"... Not the best stuff to wake up to at 3:30 am. No wonder my dreams were odd... ;-)

I've done the same thing Samwise. Actually, I was lying in bed listening to music and I shut it off and put it on my nightstand, but I apparently didn't switch it to hold like I normally do. Then I guess I bumped the play button, which I've now learned plays all tracks on your iPod if you push it when the iPod is off. Well, I woke up about 9 and a half hours later (that was back when I got more than 3 hours of sleep at night) hearing music playing really light. After a few minutes I realized that it was my iPod - still playing! So, that's how I know that my battery really does last about 10 hours.
# 16 Re: Does the ipod drain power while on off mode ?
According to the iPod manual, the iPod can be in standby for up to 2 weeks.
# 17 Re: Does the ipod drain power while on off mode ?
when i first got my ipod i had troubles like this, where i'd throw it into a bag and it would be drained when i pulled it out. later i realized that i wasn't turning on the hold button, so it was turning on while in the case constantly, and playing.
after i figured that out i haven't had too many problems

my ipod drained battery again. Even though i put it on standby fully charge from the night before my battery was gone and would not boot up the ipod 2 days later even thou i never used the pod since i charged it.

# 19 Re: Does the ipod drain power while on off mode ?
i had a similar problem (ipod mini)
the battery seems to drain very fast either:
1) when it has crashed and needs to be reset, OR
2)when it is actually being reset
i listened for a half hour in the morning on full battery, turned off, hold on, then put in my jacket pocket.
when i reset it at lunch after crashing, it had less than a quarter battery left...
btw, in the manual it says plug the ipod in before resetting, so this could be the problem with battery drain when resetting
# 20 Re: Does the ipod drain power while on off mode ?
The new click wheel iPod shuts off entirely so it never drains battery while "off".
# 21 Re: Does the ipod drain power while on off mode ?
Yes, it does. Power is used to keep data in RAM, so you can have iPod ready in just a second. After 48 hours iPod is going to deep sleep and suppose to do not drain battery. Anyway, it seems to drain it a little bit, otherwise how it can figure out that you pressed some buttons?
