Battery Life While Transferring Files

I bought my new 30Gb iPod yesterday and gave it an overnight charge.

This morning I began transferring my MP3 files to the iPod from my Gateway laptop running windows XP. I now that while using the 6-pin to 4-pin firewire adapter the iPod will not be charged, but what I'm experiencing is a depletion of the batter after about an hour of file transferring. Is this normal?

Also, if I were to buy and install a Firewire card into my desktop PC, would this allow the iPod to be powered while I transferred files to it?

This is a really fancy tool for me! I'm really looking forward to being able to take my entire music library with me in my pocket. I just hope I can get the bugs worked out soon!

Thanks in advance for the information!!

Sincerely,

Yes, it's normal. The battery meter fluctuates a lot, and I guess it takes a while to realize how much juice it has left.

And yes, installing a new firewire card into your desktop PC will allow the iPod to be powered by the pc during file transfer (just make sure the card your buying has 6pin ports... most if not all new cards sold now a days have them).
