Old 10gb Fading backlight?

OK...heres the scoop
I was using my friend's 10GB winpod (touchwheel but not touch buttons -- pre april 28) I noticed tht when the backlight turns on/off it fades, like the new ones...and my 5gb does not do that?
WHY? He has 1.2.6 windows and i have 1.3 mac

Only the touch wheel ipods fade.

Nope, you must have imagined it. Only new iPods fade.
