iPod message: dock connector + arrow... then shuts off.

My ipod shows the apple logo then this picture of the dock connector, the part that goes in the ipod, with an arrow pointing away from it to my left. then shuts off. it does not show the "don't disconnect" when I connect it just that message. same thing when I just turn it on.

What's going on here?

I've had this thing for 3 days and I've been doing nothing but trying to make it work. from one problem to another.

I'd really like to hear if anyone else has seen this icon and what it means.

After quite a bit of trouble getting things going, I thought I finally had it made when this icon popped on my brand new 3g 30.

I was finally able to reset the unit (Menu+Play/Pause), pop it immediately into Firewire Disk mode (Back+Forward) while docked. I then ran the restore from the iPod Manager (wiping all my tunes  ) and had to resynch my entire library.

I never have found a reference to that icon on any board or in Apple's knowedlege base.

I had this problem too. A faulty firewire card screwed up my Ipod software during a factory reset.

I replaced the firewire card then did the following..

Usual Ipod reset procedure (play and menu held down together) followed by holding down the 'Previous track' key and the 'Next track' key together just as the Apple logo appeared. This got rid of the warning triangle and the Ipod was ready to listen to the PC again.
