Returning an iPod?
So, here's the deal...I got my 15GB iPod with the first batch of the new ones at the end of April direct from Apple. It works great and I love it, but I'm worried about one thing. What if something happens after one year? Obviously I didn't plan this out well beforehand. I wanted to know if it's even possible to return the iPod to Apple for a refund (it's still in brand new condition) and then to buy another somewhere else (like Best Buy) and get and extended warranty (four years is what I've heard). Could anyone fill me in on this? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Depending on the policy of each Best Buy/CompUSA store you may be able to purchase an extended warranty from them, just by taking in your iPod and receipt and proving it is still working.
This is not a across the board situation as has been reported by many 'loungers and is down to the manager of the store you go to.
The Warranty Options (http://www.xsorbit1.com/users/dennx/index.cgi?board=ipodservice&action=display&num=1018468353) thread over on the old forum may help, as will the numerous posts in the Service/Warranty/Repair board on this forum e.g. here (http://www.ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1755)

I talked to someone at Best Buy today and they said no way to a warranty or plan from them unless the iPod was purchased at Best Buy. Will Apple simply let me return the iPod to them? Maybe I'll just do that and get a new one at Best Buy...What do you all think?

I just returned a 15Gb to an Apple store. My wife bought it for me for Father's day gift. According to store policy, you have 10 days to return it for a refund. Not sure what happens after that. If the box is opened, during the 10 day period, they'll charge you a restocking fee. I chose to return it for the same reason you did. Hope this helps.
