Does the new iPod support MP3pro?

I've downloaded a few tracks to the iPod using MP3 Pro VBR as the encoder and they play fine. However that may be because of the backward compatability and I am missing the higher frequencies. Does anyone know for sure?

It supports AAC, but not MP3 pro. You can play your MP3 pro encoded files, but only at MP3 levels--ie you're not getting the advantage of MP3 pro, it's just playing as an mp3..

There is no way Apple is going to implement MP3 PRO, it would compete with AAC.

Same goes for OGG support too.

That's a shame as I have a PC :-(

Does anyone know if I can use a PC to encode in AAC. Is it worth the effort when compared to MP3.
