Ha, good luck. Most of the really good deals are gone. MacWarehouse had a stash of 20Gb gen 2's for $299 for a while. Apple currently has refurbished 20Gb gen 2's for $299 (Windows version). Your next best bet is finding a good deal here or on eBay. But I think everyone is asking way too much (every once in a while there's a reasonable price). If it was me, I'd just buy a Gen 3 from an authorized dealer and be done with it.

yes, best of luck to you. a while back, amazon was offering around 250 i think for an old 20 gig (well not old, it was brand new). i was thinking about getting that but i opted for the new 3G 10 gig for 275. cant beat that price (you really cant, it was the best price anywhere to my knowledge).

eBay is definitely your BEST bet for sure. I'd buy good condition used rather than brand new if you're in it to save money. I sold my 10GB generation 2 on eBay a month ago for $275 and there was nothing wrong with it at all. The buyer was very satisfied with it. Prices undoubtedly are much cheaper now so I'd go for it if I were you.

This is exactly my point. Why would anyone buy a used 10Gb 2nd gen for $275 when for $25 more they can have a new 10Gb 3rd gen? You got a great price for your used iPod, and there's not a thing wrong with that! But from a buyer's perspective, it doesn't make any sense to me.

I was giving a sellers perspective as well. I know it's not possible at all to get used 2nd gen. iPods for that much now, but not that much cheaper...

Apple has really good refurb deals. I received the 5 gig ipods I ordered for 150 bucks from them 2 weeks ago. Awesome.

I'm thinking that some people like the Gen 2s more than the Gen 3s because of extended battery life and perhaps they even enjoy the bigger size. :o

Yes, I'm sure that's true. And I'm one of them. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with buying on eBay if you can strike a good deal with someone. I did exactly that. I kept watching the newest auctions, and when I saw what I wanted (a sealed 10Gb gen 2) I made an offer. The seller accepted and I had a new 10Gb gen 2 for $230 shipped. I think that's a fair deal. Paying $275 for a used gen 2 10Gb isn't for me. But many people are doing it.

I actually had a basically unlimited supply of money when i went to purchase my iPod (ok, little more than 600 bucks), and wanted to go all out.

when i looked at the new ipods, i was basically disgusted. The button alignment was horrible, the awesome square edge was rounded off, the battery life was assassinated, and the connector went proprietary!

So, instead, i purchased a 20 giger from macwarehouse (300, and has 20 gig "windows" ipods, whereas the one i bought said mac, oh well, quick format and its done, for like 350), and bought a couple of cases from Speck Products (hard plastic case and 3 pack of rubberized cases), and still was under 400.

BTW, if you are looking for a case, go with speck's hard case, it is a hard case that allows easy access to the wheel, protects the screen and allows you to still see it, AND is about half the price as the armor, AND acts as a stand!
