Scared to buy an ipod..

Hey...heres some thoughts..as im trying to buy a Ipod 10gb windows

Ok from what ive seen/heard/read about on ipodlounge...it seems that 2nd and 3rd gen ipods have lots of bugs, and have failures such as not being able to turn on.

As a buyer (16 years old)...i was thinking about purchasing one on ebay...(new and all) but now i can't like risk it. What if it failes or something stupid like these stories ive heard. Im guessing i should really find one with a warranty huh? Please let me know what you all think.

Buy it new. I have had absolutely no problems with my 3rd gen 15GB iPod, sans the remote (didn't work, had to send it back to Apple, I'm getting one in 2 weeks). Don't bother with eBay. Then, if for some reason you have to return it to Apple because of a defect, it's easy.

Yeah, definately get one from Bestbuy with the warranty... With the money you save from the student discount, you get years of warranty... It is cheaper than the Applecare plan from Apple... I know that it's a lot of money to spend, but it's worth it...

I'm 16 too, and tonight I went to a party (leaving party for a japanese friend), and these amazing girls loved the iPod... of course their hand-eye coordination was off (they couldn't play brick), but the iPod has special powers!... It got me a massage... a quite good one too!

I purchased my new 30GB off of eBay NIB. Works fine, haven't had any problems. Anyways, the seller was close with Apple (either worked for them or was close to someone who does), so I feel pretty safe and confident. Otherwise, I'd probably buy one at Best Buy (or Apple Store, if you're near one).

The apple store gives 10% discount for studens with ID, and Best Buy will PriceMatch, go here apple.com/education

I am in Hawaii and the only place to get the iPod was CompUSA when it first came out. Yeah, if I waited I could have bought it directly from our island's only Apple store, which opened on May 30th.

Or see if you can get a refurb 20gb gen 2 from the Apple online store.

It's also wise to keep in mind that this forum is where lots of people go when there's a problem with their iPod. You see a lot of complaints because the people who haven't had any trouble at all with their iPod are too busy listening to them to post here. :)

So buy your iPod.

FWIW, my 20G has never had any problems, and I've had it nearly a year now. My daughter's 10G had to go back for a corrupt hard drive, and it was replaced within three days.

buy it. trust me its really worth it. I'm 17 and I got my iPod as a graduation present from my brother (he's 25 and he's had a 2nd gen 20 gig iPod for some time now). I love my iPod :D

ok, what's the better option..

$290 including tax from apple store for a "Refreshed" (the term the guy used) 3rd gen 10gb ipod

or

or 299$ for "refurbished" 20gb off apple store (no shipping, no tax)

Personally, I'd go with the refurbed 20gb, since I like the old button location, and you have the larger battery. These iPods are new on the outside, so it'll look just like new.

Oh, and I will be doing the same, as I would like to replace my 10gb v1 with a 20gb v2 before they disappear.

1 thing about 20gb gen2's tho....comparing to 15gb, 20gb is pretty #### thick! Plus, having the latest and the greatest just gives you the bragging rights.

What! Of course the gen 1 and gen 2's are bigger, because you get 4 or more hours of battery life, otherwise the two of them do the same thing. Latest and greatest? I couldn't care less about latest and greatest when I'm sitting on a train and the battery is getting ready to go out on the crappy 30gb gen 3 iPod. No offense, but battery life is the most important thing to me, and I really have to wonder if the life of the gen 3's will be shorter since you will have to charge it more often.
