Whoa, I was at target today and they are planning on stocking the ipod in about 2 weeks. CRAZY!! Best buy doesn't even have them, why target?

Hmmm... the Target and BestBuy stores around me have been selling iPods for a while now.

(Well Target didn't have the 3rd Gens, but they did carry the 2nd Gens for a while).

Target quit selling them after Apple changed essentially the way they sell the ipod to retailers (issues with liability, costs, etc). Best Buy is still selling them.

There's a sign in my local Target by the mp3 players that says that they'll be stocking the iPod in July. I assume they worked out a new agreement with Apple.

If so, that's good news--hadn't heard that. When Target initially pulled out, people were able to get decent discounts on the ipod--if it falls through again, it's worth keeping an eye on.

Still, I'd recommend Best Buy over target, and get the 4 year psp. I'm averaging a dead ipod every three months; the psp has been a godsend...

While true, wasn't this just days before and during the Gen3 rollout, IOW driven by the fact they were holding inventory of the previous model? If Target drops out again, I wouldn't expect big discounts if they're inventory is still current model - IMHO.

I recommend buying the iPod wherever it is the cheapest and then getting the warranty at CompUSA. What are you doing to your iPod that it is dead every three months? How many times has this happened? I would have to say that this is not normal and one should not expect to replace every three months.

At least with the BB PSP you can keep replacing the ipod without having to buy a new plan everytime (like compusa). Unfortunately I bought my ipod at CUSA from the get-go so when I go in for the replacement I have to buy the plan again from them.

I'm not "doing" anything to it, I take very good care of it thank you;) ...There was a poster who went through 5 or 6 in less than 6 months, so unfortunately this is not unheard of.

As the above poster mentioned, the Best Buy PSP is transferable to your new ipod--it doesn't go away like the CompUSA TAP. The TAP, however, does have the advantage of allowing you to upgrade at will (although people have had varying amounts of success with this).

Sadly, from what another poster mentioned, the Best Buy PSP is now only offered in the two year version--I count my blessings I was able to get the four year version...

And with regard to the Target thing, that actually occurred before the release of the gen3's--and was related to Apple's change in policy. It was close enough to the release of the Gen 3's that you may be right Midpack, but I think it was more related (at that time) to a severing of the relationship between Apple and Target--when Target started discounting, the reason given was that they were going to quit selling them--there was no mention of the gen3's... When it happend, there was concern that Best Buy was going to follow suit, but fortunately they didn't, and it appears Target and Apple have mended the fences (at least temporarily).

Here is a link to an article briefly explaining what happend:
