think you ought to tell that to these folks ( http://www.ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2660)
but you may want to take cover. they seem pretty passionate about their volume levels in there.

Hmmm... didnt apple acknowlege that ther eis a cap? Maybe you got 2 americans, or 2 europeans...

yes very interesting, as people are convinced (by comparing two iPods, or an iPod with osmething else, like a Zen) that volume levels are not the same.
In any case, although I am aware of the risks by listening to music too loud, a bit more volume (for my European pod) would be more welcome. Can get hard on public transport. Will be testing my iPod on the Eurostar this w/e, and perhaps on a plane next month. At the moment things do not look too good :(
Can you give us more info kolstad? Or has anyone either checked the specs or contacted Apple about this?

I spoke to a tech support manager ("Anne-Marie") in the UK (well, Ireland is where the calls go), and she acknowledged there is a problem and gave me a case ID. On the knowledgebase article 60920 it is claimed the output is 60mW but I think that is probably the old model. Anyone here able to measure such thing? And the Applestore online claims the headphones are "five times more powerful than other digital headphones"! Furthermore, I don't understand why the minijack output on the dock should also be at such a low level though......?

I'm going to lock this thread and direct you to the European iPod volume limitations thread ( http://ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=18080#post18080) . I know it's a lot to read everything in it, but perhaps if everyone works together, we'll see a solution. :)
